MEDIA » Delaware County increased the size of its Armed Services Tribute Board recently so that more military members could be honored on the display.

The board has stood in the Government Center’s lobby for about 10 years and includes 71 pictures and brief descriptions of county residents who are serving or who have served either abroad or domestically in any of the branches of the U.S. military.

“Once we put them up, we want to keep them as an honor and tribute to them,” county Executive Director Marianne Grace explained.

Grace said the board originated as an idea with the county’s Employee Morale Committee and County Council more than a decade ago to cement the county’s commitment to veterans.

Over the weekend, the board was expanded by eight to 10 feet.

It includes a variety of service members, such as the Lumley siblings, who were added to the board in late September.

On Sept. 27, the Lumley family placed pictures of U.S. Army Private Cameron Lumley and his sister, U.S. Navy Seaman Rebecca Lumley, on the board.

Both grew up in Boothwyn, with Cameron being a 2015 graduate of Chichester High School and Rebecca being a 2010 alum of the same school.

After high school, Cameron finished infantry school training at Fort Benning, Ga., and received the blue cord in August. A mortarman, he is also studying at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa.

Rebecca finished her basic training at Great Lakes, Ill., and graduated third in her class at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas, to become a Navy Corpsman. Recently, she was recognized for finishing first in C school, where she is training to be a surgical technician.

To have a loved one serving in the military placed on the board, county residents should submit a 4 X 6 color photograph of the individual with the service person’s name, town of residency and their official military address to the Public Relations Department, Room 226A, Delaware County Government Center, 201 W. Front St., Media, PA 19063.
