La Salle outlasts Penn in 2OT

PHILADELPH­IA » B.J. Johnson had 20 points and 14 rebounds and La Salle held on after he fouled out with 3:46 left in the second overtime for a 7571 win over Pennsylvan­ia in the Philadelph­ia Big 5 opener on Monday night.

Johnson scored the baskets that forced both overtimes for the Explorers (20) and Amar Stukes made a pair of free throws with 31.6 seconds left in the second overtime to make it 70-65 — the first lead of more than three points by either team since the 13:20 mark of the second half.

Penn prolonged the final 30 seconds with fouls and had Darnell Foreman’s 3-point attempt to tie with 13 seconds left. But it hit off the back of the rim and the Explorers made 5 of 6 from the foul line to seal the win.

Drexel downs Arcadia U behind Isabell’s 22 points

PHILADELPH­IA » Tramaine Isabell scored 22 points to lead five Dragons in double figures, made 11 of 14 free throws and handed out five assists as Drexel pulled away early from Division III member Arcadia University to win 9581 on Monday night.

Troy Harper added 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Sammy Mojica added 13 points with five assists, Kurk Lee had 11 points, and Austin Williams, 10 for Drexel (2-0).

Arcadia’s Josh Scott tied it at 2 with a layup, but Drexel quickly pulled ahead on a 10-3 run in which Jarvis Doles made a 3 and led 51-42 at halftime behind Harper’s 15 points and on 55.2 percent shooting from the floor.

The Dragons shot 58.8 percent early in the second half and led 81-60 after Isabell hit a pair of free throws, and cruised.

Saint Joseph’s survives on road for win over UIC

CHICAGO » James Demery had six of his 25 points in overtime, including a key 3-point play in the final minute, and Saint Joseph’s powered past UIC 86-82 on Monday night.

Demery’s 3-point play made it 83-78 with 39 seconds left and he added 1 of 2 free throws to make it a four-point lead for the Hawks (1-1) at 13 seconds. He finished two points short of the career-high 27 he set against Fordham on Jan. 7.

The Flames (1-1) had a 16-3 run to lead 67-56 on Godwin Boahen’s layup with 6:48 to go in the second half.

Saint Joseph’s responded with 11 straight points to tie, UIC then scored six straight to lead 73-67 with 1:19 left, and the Hawks finished with a 7-1 run to force overtime.
