Neumann sizzles in second half

Once it warmed up Monday night, Neumann University was unstoppabl­e.

The Knights shot 64.5 percent from the field in the second half to pull away for an 83-70 men’s basketball victory over Scranton.

The Knights (5-2) connected on 20 of 31 shots in the second half to turn a 3632 halftime lead into a double digit victory. No one had a better shooting night than Aaron Johnson-Chavis. He made all seven of his attempts and scored 17 points in the second half to finish 8-for-8 from the field with 19 points overall.

Tyaire Hudson led the Knights with 29 points on 13for-20 shooting from the field. He was 6-for-10 in the first half, including two 3-pointers, and went 7-for-10 in the second half. Billy Cassidy chipped in with 10 points and five assists.

Women’s Basketball

Neumann overcame an early nine-point deficit to extend its winning streak to three games with a 77-69 victory over Rutgers-Camden.

Minika Glenn scored five points and Lauren Leicht added four points in a 13-1 run in the final 2:57 of the second quarter that turned a 29-27 deficit into a 40-30 halftime lead for the Knights (5-3). Neumann led by as many as 17 points and the Scarlet Raptors never got closer than six points in the second half.

Nafisa Saunders paced four Knights with 20 points. Leicht added 13 points. Glenn chipped in with 11 and Mariah Maciejewsk­i had 10.
