Ol’ Man Winter huffs, puffs, scatters schedules

-

Winter officially is five days away, but that did not prevent Mother Nature from throwing a monkey wrench into the high school athletic schedule.

A total of 16 area events were postponed because of Friday’s snow. The Central League was hardest hit as 10 of the 12 scheduled boys and girls basketball games did not take place because of the weather.

Three of the boys games were moved to Saturday. Strath Haven entertains Penncrest at 2:30, while Marple Newtown hosts Springfield and Ridley visits Conestoga at 4 p.m. No rescheduled dates have been set for Garnet Valley at Lower Merion and Harriton at Radnor.

To accommodate its league games, Marple Newtown moved Saturday’s nonleague game with Interboro to Dec. 23 and Ridley switched its nonleague contest with Chichester to Jan. 15.

Archbishop Carroll showdown with Shipley School in the All-City Classic was cancelled due to the weather.

On the girls side, two games were moved to Saturday. Marple Newtown visits Springfield at 1 p.m., while Penncrest hosts Strath Haven at 7. To make room for its league game, Marple Newtown rescheduled Saturday’s nonleague contest against Interboro unil Jan. 27.

Also, to get the Penncrest-Strath Haven game in, Penncrest moved its nonleague game against Collegium Charter to Dec. 22, while Strath Haven postponed its nonleague contest with Sun Valley to an unspecified date.

The Conestoga-Ridley game has been moved to Dec. 23. No rescheduled dates have been set for Lower Merion at Garnet Valley and Radnor at Harriton.

Cardinal O’Hara’s home Catholic League girls basketball game against Little Flower was moved to Dec. 20. The start of the Howdy Duncan Invitational wrestling tournament at William Penn High School in Delaware has been pushed back to Saturday and will be completed Sunday.

The coed dual swimming meet between Springfield and Conestoga at the Upper Main Line YMCA also fell victim to the weather. No reschedule date has been set.

The hockey schedule even took a hit. All the games except for Garnet Valley vs. Haverford were postponed.
