Joseph B. McFarland III, age 76, died peacefully January 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Philadelph­ia and lived there for several years before moving to Concord Township, Glen Mills. Joe graduated from Media High School in 1959 and lived in Upper Chichester for the past 55 years. Joe started his career as a meat cutter and manager at A&P Markets and worked for other super markets over the years. He fulfilled his dream by owning and operating American Family Supermarke­t in Claymont, DE for 10 years, finally retiring in 2005.

Joe was an avid Philadelph­ia sports fan. He enjoyed Nascar, classic car shows, drag racing, vacations at the beach, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfathe­r who cherished spending time with his family.

He was a parishione­r of Elam United Methodist Church.

Joe was the son of the late Joseph B. McFarland Jr., and the late Charlotte Shelly McFarland Smith and Step-Father John Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Ruth Glissman McFarland, Daughter Shelly McMonagle (husband Sean), Son Joseph B. McFarland IV, two sisters, two brothers and his beloved grandchild­ren Rachael, Carley, Abbey, Ainsley and Aiden.

Visitation is Friday evening from 6:30-7:30 pm at the Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home, 5980 Chichester Ave., Aston, PA.

Funeral Services are Friday evening at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be Private.
