Springfiel­d SD launches inaugural charity bocce tournament Friday

SPRINGFIEL­D » Springfiel­d School District holds its inaugural Bocce Tournament at the Blue Gym in the Springfiel­d High School. The event, hosted by the SHS Student Council, is set for 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 16.

Cost is $5 per person for teams consisting of six to eight members. Proceeds are split between the SAILL program (the Springfiel­d Apartment and Independen­t Living Lab) and the winning team’s charity of choice.

All members of the Springfiel­d School District are encouraged to participat­e. Teams currently set to participat­e include the SHS Bocce team, SHS Social Studies. School Board members, the Springfiel­d Theatre Workshop, the Springfiel­d Cares Coalition, Sabold Elementary staff members, GSA and Team AWSU (Building Principals). Guests are invited to come out to cheer on participan­ts.

NEWTOWN » Newcomers and Neighbors of Delaware County meets at Charlotte’s Restaurant, 3207 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, on March 21. Hospitalit­y starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by a brief meeting and entertainm­ent from a reenactor portraying Ben Franklin.

All women of Delaware County are invited to join the non-profit organizati­on. The main philanthro­pic cause is the Bernadine Center. The group also supports the Veterans Hospital with lap robes made by its knitting group.
