Hopper delivers game-winning hit for Ridley Nall
Tim Hopper’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Ridley Nall a 5-4 walk-off victory in Game 1 of a Senior EDCO playoff series Monday.
Dan Ouimette pitched a complete game with five strikeouts. Tyler Dimatteo, Aaron Kintsche, Jake Hoffman and Hopper each collected two hits.
In a Main Line Senior Legion game: BROOMALL-NEWTOWN 19, NORWOOD 2 » Luke Zimmerman, the 2018 Daily Times Player of the Year, smacked a two-run homer to give B-N the lead for good in the third inning in the first game of a quarterfinal playoff series. Luke Cantwell’s grand slam in the fourth inning highlighted a sevenrun outburst.
Alden Mathes doubled and scored three runs, while Corey Woodcock finished 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs and four runs. Jim White was 3-for-5 with a triple and Kevin Merrone finished 2-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored. Bob Steven and Anthony Basciano also chipped in with two base knocks for B-N.
In the Delco League: WAYNE 14, MIDDLETOWN
4» Wayne cruised to its 20th win of the season behind solid hitting from Matt Briner (3-for-3, three runs), Jacob Lentz (2-for3, five RBIs) and Dan Williams (2-for-3). Lentz had a bases-clearing single in the first inning.
Starting pitcher Tom Cockhill hurled four solid innings to get the win.
Softball
Batter & Crumbs swept a Delco Christian League playoff series against Haggerty’s, 19-4 and 19-4.
In the opener, Cal Parkinson cranked a two-run homer and finished 3-for-4 with four ribbies. Brian Kucharik (3-for-4, five RBIs) added a three-run dinger to highlight an 11-run third inning. Marc McGough was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored.
In the nightcap, Bobby Breischaft’s RBI single in the third inning broke a 4-4 deadlock. Chuck Stewart was 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, while Dan Fradette added two hits and three RBIs.
Batter & Crumbs will play UTC Union in the best-of-5 championship series. Game 1 is scheduled for Thursday at Interboro at 6 p.m.
Basketball
Ryan Johnston scored 18 points to lead Jem’s Deli to a 35-21 West Laurel Hill/ Springfield League senior division win over Legacy Advisors.
Alex Spadaro paced Advisors with eight points.
