Changes in the habits and lives of Americans as a result of the war are showing a marked effect upon the nation’s religious life. The most widely known results is the transfer of clergymen from civilian pulpits to the chaplaincy of the armed forces, thus creating an increasing shortage of ministers on the home front. Other changes, however, have also had a disrupting effect. One of these is the growing scarcity of Sunday school teachers along with other types of teaching personnel who have been drafted.

Two Upper Darby police officers, injured while corralling five juveniles, will off the job at least a month. Officer Julie Slothower suffered a separated shoulder and Officer Samuel Sproull sustained a cut that severed a nerve and required stitches on his arm. “Where are the parents of these kids who are out there at that time of the night? These kids should be home in bed instead of stealing, robing and pillaging in our community,” said Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.
