RALL falls in state Little League tourney opener

It was a rough start to the Pennsylvan­ia Little League tournament for Ridley Area.

Clarion Little League scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and rode that outburst to an 11-9 victory over the District 19 and Section 8 champions in the opening round of the state tournament at Berwick Little League.

RALL rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take a 7-5 lead on Jack Sharer’s two-run homer, but could not hold the lead. T.C. Cobb clubbed a two-run homer and Connor Scanlan smacked a solo shot, but it wasn’t enough.

RALL takes on Black Mountain at noon Monday in the losers bracket.

American Legion

Evan Moore finished what Cole Humes started to help Wayne top Yardley-Morrisvill­e, 6-2, in the first round of the Region 3 American Legion Tournament.

Humes went 4.2 innings Saturday before rain brought a halt to the contest. He had seven strikeouts. Moore took over when play resumed Sunday and tossed the final 2.1 innings to earn the save and send the Wolverines into Monday’s second round against the Spring City Red Sox.

Moore also drove in a two runs, as did Dane Greisiger with a double. Jack Dougherty knocked in one to close out the scoring for the Wolverines. Delco League

Narberth downed Marple Newtown, 8-3, to clinch second place and a bye in the first round of the Delco League playoffs, No other details were reported.

In the other season finale, Aston Valley blanked Chester, 9-0, to lock up third place and eliminate Chester from playoff contention. No details were reported on that game, either.

The fourth-seeded Marple Black Sox take on fifth seeded Upper Darby in the first game of a bestof-3 quarterfin­al series Tuesday at Marple Newtown High. Game 2 is Wednesday at Kerr Field, with Game 3, if necessary, back at Marple Newtown Thursday.

Aston Valley hosts sixthseede­d Springfiel­d Tuesday at Buggy Field. The series switches to Springfiel­d High Wednesday and returns to Buggy Thursday if necessary. Starting time for all weekday playoff games is 5:45 p.m.
