Come out to Clear the Shelters for a new pet Saturday
Providence Animal Center will be offering waived fee adoptions in participation with NBC10’s Clear the Shelters event Saturday, Aug. 18, which is an annual effort hosted by NBC10/Telemundo. Last year, nearly 700 shelters participated in the waived-fee adoption event, and as a result, over 60,000 pets found forever homes.
Providence Animal Center’s adoption hours Saturday are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The adoption center is located at 555 Sandy Bank Road, in Media.
If you plan on visiting Providence Animal Center’s Clear the Shelters event, follow these helpful tips:
Bring a completed adoption application, which can be downloaded at providenceac. org, a driver’s license or a stateissued ID with current address showing that the adopter is at least 18 years old.
The owner of the home must consent to the adoption of the animal. If you rent, Providence requires a copy of your lease stating that you are allowed to have pets. If the lease doesn’t state anything regarding owning pet, they will need an official letter from your landlord. Since many rental offices are closed on Saturday, try to get this ahead of time and bring the letter with you. If you own your home, bring a copy of your deed, mortgage payment book or tax bill.
All members of the household must meet and approve of the new furry family member.
If you are planning to adopt a dog and presently have a dog(s), all dogs must meet at the Adoption Center under the supervision of a trained Providence Animal Center Animal Care Associate. This means, if you have a dog of your own, bring him/her with you the day of the event so they can meet the new pet.
If you have veterinary records for current or previous pets, please bring them if possible.
Don’t forget your wallet at home. Each adoption will be subject to a $10 processing fee, and any additional donation you can make on top of that will help support PAC’s privately funded lifesaving mission. All major credit cards are accepted at the time of adoption processing.
Be sure to wear sunblock and be prepared for any type of weather — including the heat and maybe even a little rain. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear in case you have to wait in line.
Providence’s adoption process is on a first good home come, first good home served basis when all requirements are met and the application is approved. To see a variety of the pets who will be available for adoption at no fees, visit providenceac.org.
