Ridley High School plans to slap fees on some art classes
The fee will apply to drawing, drawing II, painting, painting II, ceramics and advanced ceramics to assist in the purchase of the materials for the classes.
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP >> Ridley High School students who take a variety of art classes at the school will be asked to pay a $10 lab fee per class, according to action taken by the Ridley School Board at its October meeting. The fee was proposed by high school Principal Dr. Kenneth Acker.
The fee will apply to drawing, drawing II, painting, painting II, ceramics and advanced ceramics to assist in the purchase of the materials for the classes. The proposal calls for all funds collected to be maintained through the Student Activities Account. Any student with financial difficulties would be able to request assistance from the high school administration or the guidance department.
Congratulations went out to the Lakeview Home and School Organization from the school board for being awarded one of the $50,000 state Greenway Trails Recreation Grants for the Lakeview Elementary School playground project. The association proposed a two-phased project plan for the playground that was approved by the school board in February 2017. The current phase proposes to remove the existing equipment and replace it with new equipment that includes two climbing structures, a three-slide structure, a spin apparatus and two balancing structures.
In her report to the school board, district Superintendent Lee Ann Wentzel thanked four students and three staff members in helping a student during a medical emergency while swimming in the pool at the school during an aquatics class. Students Angelo Blythe, Tyshawn Zayas, Samantha DiGregorio and Justin Sweeney, along with staff members Brian Chivalette, Jacquline Fenza and Jack Signor, were also commended by the school board. No further details were provided about the incident.
