Danielle McNichol receives Chamber’s 2018 Athena Award
SPRINGFIELD >> The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce presented the
2018 Athena Leadership Award to Danielle “Dani” McNichol, Esq. last week at the 2018 Athena Leadership Luncheon at the Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester. The luncheon drew nearly 200 attendees, including Delaware County business leaders, higher education professionals and elected officials. Nancy Martin, Confidence Coach and Author, kicked off the luncheon by giving a keynote speech focused on confidence. Trish McFarland, president of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce introduced Cecile Charlton,
2003 Athena Award recipient and Athena committee chair, who presented the award to McNichol.
Currently, McNichol serves as General Counsel at Neumann University in Aston and Director of the Neumann Center for Leadership. In addition to these roles, she also serves as a professor of instruction, chaplain for the rugby team, and is a lecturer on Constitution Day there.
Collingdale Historical Society holds veterans coffeehouse
The Collingdale Historical Society is hosting a free veterans coffeehouse 7-9 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12 at the Collingdale VFW. The event is being held in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of “The War to End All Wars.” All veterans are encouraged to come and share their stories. The Veterans of Foreign Wars was created as a direct result of the needs of returning veterans in WWI. The VFW’s original mission statement was specifically geared towards soldiers and other service members who served overseas. That mission statement has changed in the past ten years or so to include all veterans. The VFW does provide some services for returning veterans. Veterans are given opportunities to share stories and offer support.
Media seniors invited to fall luncheon at Penncrest
Lion’s MANE and the Rose Tree Media School District invite senior citizen residents to attend the Fall Senior Citizens’ Luncheon 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Penncrest High School, 134 Barren Rd., Media. The event costs $3 and includes musical entertainment and a “turkey with the trimmings” lunch. Rep. Krueger Braneky to hold luncheon for veterans
State Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky will host a lunch for veterans and their family members from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at American Legion Hall, Post 926, 3220 Concord Rd., Aston. The event includes a light lunch at 11:30 a.m. Information on state and local resources for veterans will be offered. The Pennsylvania Mobile Veterans Outreach Van will also be on hand to help accredited veterans and their families connect with needed benefits such as disability, health care, pension, education, career assistance and more. County offers free flu shots Friday
Delaware County Council, in conjunction with the Department of Intercommunity Health Coordination, will offer a free drive-through flu shot clinic for Delaware County residents over three-yearsold 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19 at the Tinicum Fire Station, 99 Wanamaker Ave., Essington. No appointments are necessary. People are asked to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item for the county food drive. The Prospect Park Library Fall book, bake and DVD sale will preview on Friday, October 26 from

Pumpkins galore at annual Christ Church pumpkin festival
Christ Church Ridley Park, 104 Nevin Street, Ridley Park will hold its annual White Elephant Sale and Pumpkin Festival 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20.
