Boylan paces O’Hara to Catholic semifinals

Cardinal O’Hara’s Catholic League volleyball playoff opener against St. Hubert was never in doubt.

Maeve Boylan filled up the stat sheet with 18 assists, seven aces, six digs and four kills to lead the Lions to a 25-18, 25-15, 25-7 decision Monday night.

Lauren Garvey added 18 kills and seven digs while Isa Kirchner pitched in with seven kills and two blocks for O’Hara (22-1).

The Lions play Lansdale Catholic in the semifinal round Thursday. The Crusaders topped Archbishop Ryan, 3-0.

Girls Tennis

Episcopal Academy capped a perfect regular season with a 6-1 decision over Haddonfiel­d (N.J.).

Ashley Kennedy cruised 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Churchwome­n (14-0). Ella Walker and Bella Calastri also won in straight sets.

In doubles play, Grace Hennigan and Caroline Burt were victorious 6-0, 6-0 in the the No. 2 match. The pairings of Parisa Afsharian and Maddy Mitchell, and Natalie Johnston and Madison Hansenns triumphed in straight sets.

Boys Cross Country

Owen Maier of Episcopal Academy claimed sixth place at the Inter-Ac League Championsh­ips at Belmont Plateau in Philadelph­ia.

Germantown Academy’s Robert Didonato won the race with a time of 16:28.2.

Maier and the Churchmen placed fourth in the team standings with 77 points. Malvern Prep (56) was overall winner, while The Haverford School (83) finished fifth.

EA’s Carson Fisher and Bradley French took seventh and eighth place, respective­ly. AJ Sanford placed 11th for Haverford.

Girls Cross Country

Episcopal Academy’s Caitlin Jorgensen earned a third-place medal at the Inter-Ac League Championsh­ip.

Jorgensen clocked a time of

20:16.2 as the Churchwome­n were fourth in the team standings with 86 points. Isabelle Goldstein’s first-place time of

19:05.90 propelled Penn Charter (29 points) to the team gold.

Notre Dame, which finished second overall with 58 points, was led by Lindsey Smith (fourth) and Kyleigh Calvert (ninth). Agnes Irwin took fifth place and was paced by Maddie Aguirre, who placed 16th.

Field Hockey

Lily Botta, Emma van der Veen and Ariana Karalis each scored a goal to lead Agnes Irwin to a 3-2 nonleague win over Bonner & Prendergas­t.

Girls Golf

Haverford High’s Reilly Quartermai­n struggled in the first day of the PIAA Class 3A Championsh­ips at Heritage Hills in York.

The sophomore, who is Delco’s lone state qualifier, is tied in 12th place among the field of 18 players. She carded an 11-over par 83 in the first round of action.

North Allegheny senior Caroline Wrigley is atop the leaderboar­d after carding a 2-over par 72 on Day 1. Samantha Yao of Conestoga fired a 6-over 78 and is in a two-way tie for fourth place.
