Concord-Bethel-Upper Chichester public forum on current issues
The Concord-Bethel and the Upper Chichester Democratic Committees will host a public forum on three issues important to all Pennsylvanians regardless of party affiliation 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Naamans Ballroom, 4300 Naamans Creek Road, Boothwyn. Admission is free. The non-partisan event will feature presentations on gerrymandering, public school education and gun violence protection from speakers with hands-on experience with these issues.
Gerrymandering, much debated in Pennsylvania, will be covered by Charles Day of Fair Districts PA, non-partisan coalition of citizens and organizations seeking to reform Pennsylvania redistricting rules. Gina Curry, an at-large representative on the Upper Darby School Board, will present current topics on education from the perspective of a parent, a taxpayer and a school board member.
Gun violence captured our attention again this year with the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneham Douglas High School. Shira Goodman, the Executive Director of CeaseFirePA, will address the state of current gun related laws, and detail ongoing initiatives in Pennsylvania. CeaseFirePA is a statewide organization working with mayors, police chiefs, faith leaders, community organizations, and individual Pennsylvanians to take a stand against gun violence.
Refreshments will be served. For more information on the forum, e-mail Julie Eble at jeble@icloud.com.
