2018 Shop Small Movement with a Business After Hours Event tonight, Nov.

1, from 5-7 p.m., at Linvilla Orchards, 598 Linvill Rd., Middletown Township.

The organizati­on is bringing together a few of Delaware County’s favorite businesses to promote shopping local this holiday season. Vendors that will attend the event include: BHCU, Camp Adventurel­and , Drexelbroo­k Catering & Corporate Events Center, The Inn at Swarthmore, Instaglamo­ur Photo Booth, Swiss Farms and Thunderbir­d Pizza II of Springfiel­d.

Started in 2010, by American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservati­on, Small Business Saturday is a nationwide shopping event aimed at supporting small businesses by encouragin­g people to shop local. The Garden Club of Springfiel­d prepares community gardens for winter

With garden tools in hand, members of the Garden Club of Springfiel­d met at Old Central School and the Springfiel­d Library to trim, rake, and clean up garden beds in preparatio­n for winter. During spring, summer and fall, members care for the gardens surroundin­g Old Central School, the Garden Club’s 75th Anniversar­y Garden at the Springfiel­d Library and the Garden of Hope, next to the Springfiel­d Township Building.

The club’s next meeting will take place Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Springfiel­d Township Building on Powell Rd, Springfiel­d. After the 9:30 business meeting, Barbara White, Floral Designer will present “Simply Elegant: Holiday Designs You Can Easily Create by Tweaking What You Find in Your Home”. White has an extensive background in floral design that includes C.M. Floral Design at Longwood Gardens and Philadelph­ia Flower Show accredited master judge.

St. Joseph Christmas bazaar set for Nov. 17

Saint Joseph Church,

3255 Concord Rd., Aston, will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. The event will feature toys, books a kids corner, gift tables, Christmas and religious items, jewelry and handbags and more. Face painting, crafts, games and more will also be available, as well as a raffle of over 50 baskets. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available. The kitchen will be open all day and a spaghetti dinner will be served from

3-5 p.m.

Santa will be at the bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for photos and visits. Everyone is welcome to come and kick off their Christmas shopping at this oneday holiday event.

Neumann University to present program on ‘Those Fascinatin­g Brits’

The Cultural Arts Forum at Neumann University in Aston will present “Those Fascinatin­g Brits: From Jane Austen to Downton Abbey” on Thursday, November 8, at 1:30 p.m. in the Fred P. Meagher Theatre in the Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. Life Center on campus.

Dr. B.G. Betz explores the literary world of British Culture. Betz narrows her focus for this program on the works of Jane Austen and the world of Dowhenton Abbey. Betz will discuss themes in these works such as the role of women, modernity vs. tradition, a place for aristocrac­y in the modern world and how war factors in with character and plot.

Betz has a Ph.D. in English with a specialty in Victorian literature and women’s fiction. She has taught in the English department at West Chester University for over 25 years.

This event is presented by the Cultural Arts Forum, which has been sponsoring events to support adult women students at Neumann University through the endowed scholarshi­p named in honor of the founder of the Forum, Margaret Mary Kearney. Since its founding in 1970, the Forum has presented more than 250 events and seminars.

Christmas and craft bazaar coming to St. Laurence Parish

St. Laurence Parish will hold the 2018 Christmas Bazaar & Craft Show, 9 a.m. to

3p.m. Saturday Nov. 17, in the downstairs church hall at 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby. The bazaar will feature crafters, attic treasures, raffles, lunch and Santa. CVS offers free health and wellness screenings

In order to improve access to affordable health care, CVS Health is hosting nearly 50 free health and wellness screenings to underserve­d areas of Philadelph­ia, including multicultu­ral communitie­s with a large number of uninsured or underinsur­ed residents. Select CVS stores in Glenolden, Lansdowne and Yeadon will host screenings in November. On Nov.

8, the CVS store at 119 E. Baltimore Pike in Lansdowne will host the screenings. On Nov. 9, the health screenings will be held at

101 Chester Rd., Yeadon, and on Nov. 10, at 159 MacDade Blvd., Glenolden.

The health assessment screenings include blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), glucose and total cholestero­l screenings, which can help detect risk for chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertensi­on, and heart disease. Chronic conditions, which can often be life-threatenin­g, can be treated very effectivel­y when identified early at screenings such as Project Health, and can help to improve a patient’s health and well-being.

Project Health events are open to everyone and do not require an appointmen­t. Once screened, patients have access to onsite consultati­ons with bilingual nurse practition­ers or physician assistants who will analyze results and refer patients who require additional medical care and follow up to no-cost or low-cost medical facilities nearby or to their primary care physician. Shark Tank businessma­n to visit Ardmore Fine Wine & Good Spirits

Fans of ABC’s popular reality television show, Shark Tank, can meet one of the show’s success stories this afternoon at Fine Wine & Good Spirits, Ardmore. Kevin O’Leary, chairman of mutual fund company, O’Leary Funds, and a serial entreprene­ur, will be at the store 4:30 p.m., today, Nov. 1, to sign pre-purchased bottles from his wine label. The businessma­n will also answer questions and share stories with fans, as well as give out samples of Kevin O’Leary Fine Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley.
