PHILADEL­PHIA >> Shizz Al­ston Jr. scored a ca­reer-high 30 points and one of his seven

3-point­ers sparked a 15-0 run in the sec­ond half as Tem­ple surged past Detroit Mercy

83-67 in the Leg­end Clas­sic on Fri­day night. The Haver­ford School All-Delco is the first Tem­ple player to score 30 in a game since 2016. Quin­ton Rose added 17 points and Nate Pierre-Louis 10 with three steals.

An Al­ston 3-pointer pushed the Owls (2-0), who trailed by as many as 11 in the first half, into a 49-48 lead with 16:11 left in the game. SAINT JOSEPH’S 79, OLD DO­MIN­ION 64 >> Char­lie Brown scored 20 points, and Pier­francesco Oliva scored 17 with 14 re­bounds and Saint Joseph’s (1-0) beat Old Do­min­ion.

Brown was 4-of-6 shoot­ing from 3-point range in his re­turn to the lineup. The sopho­more red­shirted last sea­son af­ter un­der­go­ing surgery to his left wrist.

PENN 92, RICE 76 >> A.J. Brodeur scored 23 points and Jake Silpe added a ca­reer-high 16 as Penn won its sec­ond straight game to start the sea­son, knock­ing off Rice (1-1).

The game was a home­com­ing both for Rice coach Scott Pera, a for­mer as­sis­tant coach with the Quak­ers, and grad­u­ate trans­fer Dy­lan Jones, a four-year player at Penn be­fore trans­fer­ring to Rice. EASTERN MICHI­GAN 66, DREXEL 62 >> Paul Jack­son scored 20 points with six as­sists, Boubacar Toure had 14 points and 11 re­bounds and Eastern Michi­gan (2-0) beat Drexel (0-1).
