Delco Press Club celebrates Holidays with Steve Highsmith
The Delaware County Press Club celebrates the holidays at a festive buffet luncheon at the Radnor Hotel Dec. 19 at 11:30 a.m. Broadcast Pioneer Hall of Fame inductee and expert on all things Mummers, Steve Highsmith is the featured speaker. He will share stories from his illustrious on-air career and nearly quarter century coverage of the annual Mummers Parade.
Highsmith was a member of Channel 17 from 1994-2016. He has been on the Philadelphia news scene since 1981, serving as morning news anchor and news director of WCAU Radio and news anchor of the NJN Nightly News. He joined “Inquirer New Tonight” on WPHL-TV in 1994 as chief political correspondent and anchor. He worked as a political correspondent and host of NBC10@Issue from 2005 to 2013.
He has been honored by the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, the Associated Press, the Radio and Television News Directors Association and the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters. In 2011, Steve was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame.
He has broadcast the annual Mummers Parade for nearly a quarter century and serves on the board of the Mummers Museum. He is an inductee of the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association Hall of Fame. His knowledge and love of the mummers led to authoring the book, Philadelphia Mummers.
December’s luncheon features the Press Club’s scholarship gift basket raffle. Attendees can purchase tickets for chances to win gift certificates for entertainment and spa services, dining out packages, original art, baskets of cheer and more. Proceeds from the gift basket raffle will provide financial assistance to students in higher education who are majoring in the many fields of communications at colleges and universities in the Greater Delaware County area.
The public is welcome to all Press Club events. Cost for November’s event is $30 for Press Club members with advance reservations; and $35 for non-members, walk-ins and guests (event ticket purchase includes one raffle ticket).
