Woodlyn Baptist Church: MacDade Blvd. & School Lane, Woodlyn. Dec, r 16, 6:30 p.m. Christmas Dessert Concert, All are invited to a multi-media performance “Night of the Father’s Love”, celebrating the mystery of God’s love for us in the birth of His Son. All the mystery, the awe, and the excitement of that night are captured in a Christmas mosaic, beautifully expressing the essence of Christmas: the gift of the Father’s love. Come to be reminded of the ultimate reason Jesus came to earth and the reason we celebrate. A delicious holiday dessert buffet will follow for all our guests. First Faith Missionary Baptist Church: 1705 Highland Ave., Chester. Will be having a Holiday Community Luncheon and Toy giveaway sponsored by the Missionary Ministry, Dec. 15, Noon-4 p.m. Chester’s city officials and others will be joining us as we share in the spirit of love, fellowship and giving.
The choir of Trinity Church: 301 N. Chester Rd. in Swarthmore, invites you to join them for a Service of Lessons and Music for the season of Advent. The service will be held Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary (enter through the upper red doors on the circle drive). The repertoire this year includes Gregorian Chant, Victoria’s setting of “Conditor Alme Siderum”, romantic masterpieces by Rheinberger, Rachmaninoff and Stanford and Afro-American Spirituals. This year is particularly exciting for Trinity’s choir, because this Advent service comes just one month before the choir leaves for a choral workshop and concert in Haiti. Free child-care will be available beginning at 7:15 and a reception will follow the service.
First United Methodist Church: 350 W. State Street, Media. The church is home to the Media Food Bank which serves 75-100 families each week and is supported by individuals, area churches, and local businesses. The Food Bank is open Thursdays 7-8 p.m. and the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 10-11 a.m. The church also serves the community through its Clothing Closet which is open Thursdays
7-8 p.m. and Saturdays 10-noon. The Transition Town Media Free Store is located at FUMC and serves as a place to donate used items and take (for free) items that can be used or repurposed. First Church offers FREE Beginner Yoga Classes on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. There is no charge, but donations are welcome. Children’s Art classes are offered. Christ United Methodist Church: 2900 Springfield Road, Broomall, will be hosting the annual Christmas Journey Dec. 7-8, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. The entire church is transformed into Biblical times. You will travel back in time and experience the Christmas story as it come alive right before your eyes. This indoor event creates small groups who become an Israeli Tribal Family. They journey with Centurions through the events that led to the birth of Christ. Visit the Bethlehem Judea Marketplace shops of the Grain Mill and Spice and Herbs and sample baked goods and candies. Get some hands on experience at the shops of the Carpenter, Candle and Jewelry Makers. You will meet the shepherds in the field and finally meet the baby Jesus in the manger. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete. There is no charge but there will be an opportunity for a donation. In this Season of giving, we are asking you to bring a gently used or new coat or new socks as an outreach to the needy. Romansville United Methodist Church: The community is invited to attend our annual “LIVING NATIVITY EVENT” at the Romansville United Methodist Church located at 1859 W. Strasburg Road in Romansville, Dec. 9 from 6-7:30 p.m.. Our Living Nativity is a drive thru event, so you don’t need to dress up or worry about being cold. Come all ye faithful! Step back to the time of our Savior’s birth. Meet our Roman Guards as you enter into a time long ago. See the Angel hovering over the stable where Christ was born. Watch the little angels and shepherds gathered around campfires along with live animals. Be sure to stop your car at the front of the church to listen to the heavenly Christmas Carols on the way out and receive homemade cookies as a thank you for coming. Covenant and Hancock Churches: in Springfield have launched a new outdoor Worship Service on the grounds of CC Hancock, 542 Wesley Road, Springfield and called Campfire Church. It is an informal service with a skilled guitarist and vocalist, conversational preaching time and an invitation to the table. All are welcome, especially those who are not necessarily interested in a more formal church service. It is from 5:30 to
6:30 p.m. every Sunday evening and will continue outdoors as long as it is warm enough or not inclement weather. Since it is outside, friendly furry friends are welcome. Pastor Kevin Rutledge is coordinating this new service. You can learn more about Campfire Church of Springfield at meetup.com or on Facebook. Each week this Fall, Campfire Church will explore Jesus’ parables-what they mean, where we see ourselves in them and how to apply them to our lives.
