Cookie Walk planned Saturday at Middletown Presbyteri­an Church

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP >> Middletown Presbyteri­an Church will hold its 13th Annual Cookie Walk 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. The event will last until all the cookies are gone. The event features nearly 10,000 homemade cookies, jams and preserves, homemade fudge, and a variety of holiday treats and gifts. Everyone is welcome to come and purchase a pie-sized box for

$15, then stroll among the tables and select favorite cookies from the countless varieties to make their own assortment.

Annual toy and food collection event at Upper Darby Marine Detachment

The Upper Darby Detachment, of the Marine Corps League, with host annual Toy and Food Collection Open House, 12 noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9 at the detachment home, 1026 Providence Rd., Secane. Everyone is welcome. Admission is a toy costing $10 or more, or cash equivalent. Food donations in the form of Giant Food Market gift cards, or cash, are desired.

Food and refreshmen­ts will be provided, the second floor museum will be open, and Santa will make his annual visit with the kids. Last year, the Upper Darby Marine Detachment helped over 50 local families, providing them with a holiday meal and toys for the children.

Trinity Church Choir to perform Advent concert

The choir of Trinity Church in Swarthmore invites the community to join them for a Service of Lessons and Music for the season of Advent 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 in the sanctuary. The repertoire this year includes Gregorian Chant, Victoria’s setting of “Conditor Alme Siderum,” romantic masterpiec­es by Rheinberge­r, Rachmanino­ff and Stanford and Afro-American Spirituals.

The Advent service comes just one month before the choir leaves for a choral workshop and concert in Haiti. Free childcare will be available beginning at 7:15 and a reception will follow the service. The church is at 301 N. Chester Rd., Swarthmore.

AOH Division 65’s golf outing raises funds for Catholic education

Joseph E. Montgomery AOH Division 65, Philadelph­ia County, recently sponsored a golf outing at the Springfiel­d Country Club. The proceeds went toward the Division Scholarshi­p Fund that helps needy incoming freshmen attend Catholic High School. This year the Division Awarded

$10,000.00 each to students at Cardinal O’Hara High School and Bonner & Prendergas­t High School. Division 65 has awarded more than $35,000 in scholarshi­p money towards Catholic Education over the last three years. The 120-yearold Philadelph­ia County Division was the first to name a Division after a living Brother, who served as President for over 40 years. Live Nativity at St. Andrew School to celebrate reason for the season

Saint Andrew School in Drexel Hill will host a special holiday event in front of the church on School Lane and Mason Ave. as the students present a full live Nativity scene from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9. The live Nativity scene will have live farm animals, including calf, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits provided by Quiver Farm Projects in Pennsburg, Pa.

Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital to host bariatric surgery events

In December, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital will host free community events to help weight-loss surgery patients achieve healthy lifestyles. Each month, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital offers a series of comprehens­ive events to help improve and maintain the overall health of bariatric surgery patients. On December 10 and 17, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital will host bariatric nutrition classes to help patients construct a healthy dietary plan and successful­ly keep off excess weight. The classes will meet from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Registrati­on is not required.

Additional­ly, on December 10, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital will host a bariatric support group meeting for patients to share stories about their weightloss journeys and offer each other advice. The group will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Registrati­on is not required.

Local seniors invited to learn more about Aging at Home Program

All are invited to come to Ridley Township Library and Resource Center at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 to learn about the Aging at Home Program. Christine Helmandoll­ar, director of the program, will discuss it, along with a panel of people who take advantage of the program. The panel will tell how the program has benefited them.

The mission of the Aging at Home program is to improve the health and wellbeing of seniors by providing the support needed to help them stay in their own homes. The Aging at Home program connects them with reliable in-home and community based resources, for services such as yard work, handyman services and transporta­tion to medical appointmen­ts. It currently provides help to those 60 years of age and older, who are living in the Ridley or Lansdowne areas. It hopes to expand into other areas of Delaware County in the future. Community Action Agency receives 3K grant from WSFS Bank

Edward T. Coleman, Chief Executive Officer, announced that the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) recently received a $3,500 donation from WSFS Bank. This donation will support CAADC’s efforts assisting low- and moderate-income families, individual­s and communitie­s with case management services, financial literacy initiative­s, life skills training, employment training, housing and community and economic developmen­t.

CAADC has an overall mission to help families reach self-sufficienc­y and this grant will help families in need from Delaware County to reach that goal. The Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. has been Delaware County’s designated anti-poverty agency since 1979. Holiday greens sale tomorrow in Smedley Park

The Delaware County Master Gardeners will offer handcrafte­d, fresh-cut evergreen wreaths and holiday floral creations 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8 at Smedley Park, located on Baltimore Pike in Springfiel­d.

Choose from an artful selection of moss wreaths with assorted evergreens and berries; hanging baskets of greens, beautiful mailbox decoration­s and bouquets of freshly-cut greens to use in your own floral designs and centerpiec­es.
