McCann cool under fire for Bonner-Prendergas­t

Maeve McCann was cool under pressure for the Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergas­t girls basketball team Sunday.

McCann drained two free throws with 6.2 seconds left in the game to seal the Pandas’ 38-35 victory over Haverford in the championsh­ip game of the Haverford High School Hall of Fame Tournament.

McCann’s free throws gave the Pandas (2-0) a three-point lead. Haverford (1-1) had a chance to tie the game but a 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark. McCann led all scorers with 12 points. The senior guard also had four steals and two assists, and took home tournament MVP honors. Teammate Dakota McCaughan also was named to the all-tournament team. Bridie McCann, Alexis Eagan and Alexis Eagan chipped in with five points each.

Sara Walsh made the alltournam­ent team for the Fords. She finished with seven points. Annalena O’Reilly paced Haverford with 11 points, while. Lindsey Lane chipped in with 10 points.

In nonleague action: Cardinal O’Hara 61, St. Luke’s 46: Freshman Sydni Scott scored 16 of her gamehigh 20 points in the second and third quarters to pace the Lions over the visitors from Australia.

Scott scored 10 points in the second period and six more in the third to help the Lions open up a 51-30 lead. She also had four rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Amaris Baker pitched in with 14 points and senior Erin Welde handed our six assists.

Boys Basketball

Mike Perretta saved two of his four 3-point field goals for when Bonner & Prendergas­t needed it the most.

Perretta buried a pair of triples in overtime to lift the Friars to an 89-82 come-from-behind victory over Sanford (Del.) in the Scholastic Play-by-Play TipOff Classic at Jefferson University.

The Friars erased a

15-point deficit capped by a pair of free throws by 201718 Daily Times Player of the Year Isaiah Wong with

3.5 seconds left that gave MBAP a 73-71 lead. Sandford hit a floater from the free throw line to send the game into OT.

That’s where Perretta took over. He scored six of his 13 points in the extra session to complete the comeback. Wong led the Friars with 23 points. Tyrese Watson and Tariq Ingraham added 20 each. Ingraham also pulled down

12 rebounds. Watson (10for-10) and Wong (11-for-11) were perfect as the the Friars shot 37-for-40 from the free throw line.

Indoor Track

Ridley’s Meghan Lynch and Bonner & Prendergas­t’s Kyle Love got their seasons off to a good start. Both came home with a pair of medals, including gold, from the Ursinus Invitation­al Saturday.

Lynch, who earned AllDelco honors in outdoor track last season, won the triple jump with a leap of

35 feet, 3 ½ inches and also took fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.97 seconds).

In other girls action, Jiya Clayton from Chester was second in the 400 (1:00.08), while Hannah Bierling from Bonner & Prendie placed fifth in the shot put

(34-7).

Love led the Delco contingent on the boys side. The sophomore won the triple jump (41- ¼) and was sixth in the 55 hurdles (8.34). The Friars also took third in the 4 x 400

(3:42.60). Academy Park’s Ian Francis and Chester’s Malachi Langley came away with bronze medals, Francis in the 200-meter dash

(23.47) and Langley in the

400 (51.64). Langley’s teammate Abdul Griggs placed sixth in the 400 (53.32).

Aidan Doherty from Archbishop Carroll took sixth in the 800 (2:07.59). In the field, Colin Ney from Haverford was fifth in the long jump (20-6 ¼). The Fords also took sixth in the

4 x 400 (3:47.91).

Wrestling

Senior Tommy Bramwell (285) was one of seven wrestlers who went undefeated as Ridley opened the season with three wins at the Knight Duals at Academy Park Saturday.

Bramwell won all three of his matches by fall as the Raiders topped Norristown

(57-20), Great Valley 95221) and host Academy Park

(57-22). Junior Eli Rodriguez (138) and sophomore Alex Treloar (106) also won three times by pin.

Sophomore Jake Green picked up two wins by fall and one by major decision in action at 113 and 120 pounds. Fellow sophomore Kevin Rainey (126) won twice by technical fall and once by fall. Senior Jacy Shaak (160) and sophomore Chris Green (113, 120) were the other triple winners for the Raiders.

Liam Grey (170), Joe Little (146), Isaac Moldonado

(182, 195) and Utensee Nankay (182, 195) went 2-0 for host Academy Park.

Alex Bendinelli, Gary Yang and Paul McLaughlin went 4-0, and Kevin Li, Amir Mujahid and Jesse Bell-Taylor were 3-0 to help Episcopal Academy go 3-1 at the Haverford Duals.

Bendinelli won by decision at 145 and three times by fall at 138.Yang (220) and McLaughlin (285) recorded three pins each. Li recorded a 12-second pin at 152 and two wins by fall at 145. Bell-Taylor’s wins came at 160.

Christian Reed (138) and All-Delco Brandon Stocku

(145) won their respective weight classes, and Jeremy Moore (120) and Nico Partsanaki­s (126) placed second to lead Penncrest to a second-place finish at the Pope John Paul II Invitation­al. Stocku won twice by fall and once by technical fall. Reed also had two victories by pin. Matt Kirchgasse­r took third at 152 and Anthony Chero was fourth at 182 for the Lions. Kwaku Adubofour of the Haverford School took third at

285 pounds
