Source: Ex-Broncos coach Joseph could join Browns
CLEVELAND >> Freddie Kitchens hasn’t signed his contract as Browns coach. He’s working anyway.
Kitchens has begun assembling his staff and will interview former Broncos coach Vance Joseph to be his defensive coordinator, a person familiar with the meeting told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Joseph, who was recently fired after going 11-21 in two seasons with Denver, will visit Cleveland Saturday.
The Browns still haven’t announced Kitchens as their coach and the team has not confirmed any other changes. Kitchens is not keeping defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who went 5-3 as interim coach.
Davis: Done with Panthers
Thomas Davis says he’s been informed by the Panthers he won’t be back with them for a 15th NFL season.
The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker is the Panthers’ all-time leading tackler. He overcame a torn ACL in the same knee three times to record 1,094 tackles,
28 sacks and 13 interceptions. But Davis,
35, posted on Twitter that the Panthers informed him they were moving on.
Reid’s lawyers dispute findings
Attorneys for Eric Reid dispute a joint statement by the NFL and NFL Players Association that says the Panthers safety was not singled out with excessive drug tests and they’re demanding the league and the players’ union “immediately issue a retraction,” according to a letter obtained by The Associated Press.
The letter says Reid was tested at least seven times and requests the independent administrator provide all information used. Reid said in December he had been tested seven times. He claimed the league targeted him because of an ongoing collusion case in which he alleged owners conspired to keep him out of the league for kneeling alongside former 49ers teammate Colin Kaepernick during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.
