Sally Krauss Bischel
Sally Krauss Bischel, formerly of Havertown, PA, passed away on September 27, 2017, at age 75 in Dubuque, Iowa.
Born on July 29, 1942 in St. Louis, MO, Sally was the daughter of the late Samuel G. Krauss and E. Louise Thompson, and the wife of Dwight W. Bischel.
Sally spent most of her youth in the Philadelphia suburbs, graduating from Haverford High School in 1960. After earning a degree in Illustration from the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts), she went on to work at several leading advertising firms on Chicago’s famed Magnificent Mile, leading campaigns for products such as Mr. Clean and Biz. One of the first women to be named Art Director at a major firm, she ultimately ran her own graphics design firm. She was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, IL, where she met her husband.
In 1992, Sally and Dwight moved to Galena, IL, where she renewed her passion for art, devoting herself to her paintings of the local area. She also pursued her interests in gardening, music, and family history, including her father’s tenure with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Curtis Institute.
Sally is survived by her husband of 37 years, Dwight; her son Wesley Bischel, husband of Marsha (Lancaster, PA); grandson Samuel Bischel; brother Samuel G. Krauss, Jr. (Inverness, IL); and nephews Samuel G. Krauss III (Alison) and William G. Krauss, and their families.
