UNC Wilmington tops Drexel behind Cacok’s 24 points

WILMINGTON, N.C. >> Devontae Cacok scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season and UNC Wilmington beat Drexel 9783 on Saturday.

Ty Gadsden and Jeantal Cylla scored 20 points apiece, Jay Estime’ added 11 and Kai Toews dished 13 assists for the Seahawks (8-7,

3-1 Northeast Conference), who scored 24 points off of

11 turnovers and made 11 of

25 3-pointers. Gadsden’s 4-point play put the Seahawks up for good 53-51 and UNCW pulled ahead by 14, 76-62, after a 15-4 run. Drexel cut it to eight on Troy Harper’s layup with 1:03 left, but the Seahawks outscored them

8-2 from there. Kurk Lee scored 19 points with five 3s for the Dragons (8-11, 2-4). James Butler scored a career-high 17 and grabbed 10 rebounds and Harper also scored 17. Camren Winter made eight assists.

SAINT LOUUS 71, LA SALLE 64 >> Jordan Goodwin had 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals to help Saint Louis beat La Salle 71-64 on Saturday night.

Hasahn French added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Javon Bess scored 11 for the Billikens (12-4, 3-0 Atlantic

10), who won their fourth in a row.

Bess hit 3-pointer from deep to make it 69-64 with

1:16 left for Saint Louis and capped the scoring with a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left.

The Explorers (3-12, 1-2) trailed 37-27 at the break and never led in the second half, but a 7-0 run cut the deficit to 50-49 and five straight points tied it at 58.

Isiah Deas and Jack Clark had 14 points each and Pookie Powell scored

12 for La Salle. Saint Louis outscored La Salle in the paint 38-24.

PRINCETON 62, PENN 53 >> Devin Cannady scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Princeton past Pennsylvan­ia 62-53 on Saturday.

Cannady sank all 10 of his free throws for the Tigers (9-5, 2-0 Ivy League) who shot 90.5 percent from the foul line. Richmond Aririguzoh added 17 points and nine rebounds and Myles Stephens had 13 points and

10 rebounds. Princeton — which beat Penn at home 68-65 in overtime last week in the Ivy League opener — had a 5534 rebounding advantage over the Quakers (10-6, 0-2).

The teams were tied 27all

at the break and remained close early in the second half until a Cannady

3-pointer followed by a Stephens layup gave the Tigers a 46-41 edge with 10:41 to play. Penn closed to 46-45 with 8:29 left and Stephens replied with eight straight points to open it up again,

54-47, with 4:28 remaining. AJ Brodeur scored 16 points with 12 rebounds and five blocks for the Quakers. DUQUESNE 85, ST. JOSPEH’S

84>> Michael Hughes had 17 points and eight rebounds on Saturday and Duquesne overcame a 15-point deficit to beat Saint Joseph’s 85-84.

The Dukes (11-5, 2-1 Atlantic 10) went on an

11-2 run to lead 82-75 on Hughes’ pair of free throws with 44 seconds left in the game. The Hawks (7-9, 0-4) made three 3-pointers in the final 37 seconds, but Duquesne made 3 of 6 free throws which was enough to hand Saint Joseph’s its fourth straight loss.

Saint Joseph’s opened the game with a 22-7 lead. But the Dukes had a 17-2 run to erase the deficit and take the lead before halftime.

Marcus Weathers and Tavian Dunn-Martin added 15 points each for Duquesne. Weathers had seven rebounds and Dunn-Martin made 5 of 9 from 3-point range. Charlie Brown led Saint Joseph’s with 28 points. Jared Bynum and Lamarr Kimble added 14 points each.

TEMPLE 82, SOUTH FLORIDA

80, OT >> Nate Pierre-Louis scored 22 points, Shizz Alston Jr. had 20 points and nine assists and Temple beat South Florida 8280 in overtime on Saturday despite LaQuincy Rideau’s triple-double for the Bulls.

Rideau had 18 points, 10 assists and 10 steals to become the sixth Division I player in the last 20 seasons with a points-assistsste­als triple-double. It was the second triple-double of the season in the American Athletic Conference, joining SMU’s Jimmy Whitt Jr, and the first-ever at Liacouras Center.

Quinton Rose added 16 points for Temple (13-3, 3-1 American Athletic Conference), which won its eighth straight home game. J.P. Moorman II had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Alexis Yetna had 24 points and nine rebounds for the Bulls (12-4, 2-2). David Collins added 16 points. The Bulls have had two other players record tripledoub­les, with Adrian Hillman getting one against FAU in 1996 and McHugh Mattis versus Winston-Salem State in 2006.
