Upper Darby’s Thomas shines under lights at Lehigh

Friday night was Olivia Thomas’ night to shine.

The senior from Upper Darby topped her career best by more than two feet to win the shot put at the fourth weekly meet of the Delaware Valley Girls Track Coaches Associatio­n.

Thorpe unleashed a heave of 39 feet, 7 inches to top her previous best of 37-5 ½. It was one of six gold medal won by Delco athletes. Notre Dame’s Jessica Schneider won the 1,000-meter run with a personal best time of 2:59.39. Ridley’s Meghan Lynch took first in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 36-1.

Chester’s Jiya Clayton

(200), Penn Wood’s Elicia Moore (400) and Haverford High’s Olivia Boyce (high jump) also came home with gold.

The effort by Thomas highlighte­d a strong night for the Royals. Dominique Timmons was second in the

60-meter dash. Siani Barnes took third in the triple jump and Kayla Thorpe was fifth in the shot put. The Royals also were sixth in the 4 x 400.

Breanna Lee (fifth in 200 and Lowe Samooy (sixth in 60 dash) also picked up some hardware for the Patriots, who also were fourth in the 4 x 400 relay. Isabella Ha (fourth in high jump) and Stevie Ballas (fifth in 1,000) had a solid night for Garnet Valley, which was third in the 4 x 400.

Other individual medal winners were Ridley’s Brianna Foster (second in 200), Chichester’s Christina Bowers (sixth in 600), Marple Newtown’s Donna Holt (fourth in 800) and Strath Haven’s Alexandra Hehn (sixth in pole vault).

Cardinal O’Hara and Bonner & Prendergas­t turned in solid efforts in the first Catholic League meet of the indoor season. The Lions won the DMR, took second in the

4 x 400 and third in the 4 x

800. Rachel Bonfini was second in the high jump and fourth in the long jump. Kaitlyn Durning placed third in the 3,000.

Hannah Bierling and Jasmine Powell placed second and third, respective­ly, in the shot put to lead the Pandas. MBAP was fourth in the 4 x

400 and fifth in both the 4 x

200 and DMR.

Boys Track

Chilekasi “Chile” Adele highlighte­d a big day for Bonner & Prendegast in the first Catholic League meet of the season.

Adele threw a personal best 47-1 to take second in the shot put. Teammate Kyle Love won the 55-meter hurdles and the Friars also were first in the 4 x 200 and 4 x

400 relays, second in the DMR and third in the 4 x 800. Tim O’Brien took fifth in the long jump.

Aidan Doherty was first in the 3,000, while Cardinal O’Hara took sixth in the 4 x

400.

Strath Haven picked up a pair of medals in the Stanner Games at the Armory in New York. The Panthes were third in the 4 x 55-meter shuttle hurdles relay and seven in the 4 x 400.
