Cabrini’s surge continues by topping Neumann

Perhaps the Cabrini men’s basketball team is beginning to turn things around.

Following losses in 13 of their first 15 games to start the season, the Cavaliers picked up their third consecutiv­e victory Saturday with a 95-80 decision over Neumann.

Cabrini reached the 95-point plateau for the third time this season. Leading the way were seniors Anthony Wright-Downing and Ivan Robinson, who combined to shoot 20-for-27 from the floor, including 8-for-11 from

3-point distance. Wright-Downing (30) and Robinson (21) each had a season-high in points.

Cabrini (5-13, 3-1 Atlantic East) used a 19-3 run, including

13 straight points, to close out the first half and pull away from the visiting Knights (9-9, 0-5).

Waheem Lowman led Neumann with 19 points, while Sanoussi Abdourhama­n registered

12 points and 12 boards. URSINUS 94, SWARTHMORE 88 >> The 10th-ranked Garnet stumbled on the road against the Bears, who shot 53.1 percent from the field en route to their third win over a top-10 team in program history.

Nate Shafer scored a teamhigh 19 points to lead a contingent of Garnet double-figure scorers. Cam Wiley dumped in

18 points. George Visconti and Conor Harkins each had 12 points. Justin Tucker and Zac O’Dell (nine rebounds) scored 11 and 10 points, respective­ly. FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 77, HAVERFORD 75 >> Khalil Garnes knocked down a 3-point with

29 seconds left, but the Fords couldn’t get any closer. Garnes led the Fords with 16 points, while Joe Wujciak, who was

5-of-7 from the field in the second half, added 15 points.

Women’s Basketball

Sun Valley grad Kate Lannon scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, helping Cabrini to its fourth straight win, 89-68 over Neumann. Meghan Matthews had a season-high 22 points along with eight rebounds and four assists.

Cabrini (11-8) scored the first

10 points of the fourth quarter and cruised the rest of the way.

Nafisa Saunders netted a game-high 34 points on 13-of28 shooting for the Knights

(9-8). Lauren Leicht (Cardinal O’Hara) added nine points, four rebounds and a pair of assists. HAVERFORD 62, FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 56 >> Haverford scored 26 points off 21 turnovers. Garnet Valley graduate Macy Goldbach poured in 14 points, just behind Anna-Sophia Capizzi, who led all Fords with

16 points. Capizzi and Goldbach combined for five steals. GEORGETOWN 68, VILLANOVA

63>> The Wildcats (11-7) held a seven-point advantage on three occasions in the fourth quarter but couldn’t put away the host Bulldogs. Dorthy Adomako’s layup with a minute to play gave Georgetown the lead for good.

Mary Gedaka paced ‘Nova with 16 points. Kelly Jekot (15), Adrianna Hahn (12) and Jannah Tucker (11) also hit double figures in scoring.

URSINUS 73, SWARTHMORE 51 >> Elizabeth Stiles scored a gamehigh 22 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Garnet (2-14), who shot a paltry 26.5 percent from the floor.

Garnet Valley product and freshman Maddy Sorokanych tallied five points and two steals off the bench for the Garnet.
