Taplin, Jeffries lift Tulsa past Temple

TULSA, OKLA. >> Sterling Taplin had 14 points to lead five Tulsa players in double figures as the Golden Hurricane defeated Temple 76-58 Saturday. DaQuan Jeffries added 13 points for the Golden Hurricane. Martins Igbanu chipped in 12, Darien Jackson scored 10 and Jeriah Horne had 10.

Temple scored 27 points in the second half, a season low for the team.

Shizz Alston Jr. (Haverford School AllDelco) had 13 points and six assists for the Owls (17-7, 7-4 AAC). Nate Pierre-Louis added

12 points. Quinton Rose had 10 points and seven rebounds. He also had seven turnovers but only two assists.

Tulsa (14-10, 4-7) plays Tulane on the road Thursday. Temple faces SMU at home Wednesday.

CHARLESTON 86, DREXEL 84 >> Jarrell Brantley had 22 points as Charleston narrowly defeated Drexel.

Trevor John pulled Drexel to 86-84 with 4.9 seconds left on a pair of free throws following Brantley’s flagrant 1 foul. John then took the inbounds pass at the top of the arc, dribbled twice and tossed an awkward 3-point shot that hit the glass at the buzzer.

Grant Riller added 19 points for Charleston (20-6, 9-4 Colonial Athletic Conference), which earned its sixth consecutiv­e win. Marquise Pointer had 13 points and Sam Miller had 11 points for the visitors.

Troy Harper scored a career-high 30 points for the Dragons (12-14, 6-7). Alihan Demir added 18 points. Camren Wynter had

16 points and six assists. John finished with

10 points.

The Cougars evened the season series against the Dragons with the win. Drexel defeated College of Charleston 79-78 on Jan. 10. College of Charleston plays Hofstra at home on Thursday.

Drexel matches up against James Madison on the road on Thursday.

YALE 78, PENN 65 >> Miye Oni had 21 points as Yale extended its home winning streak to eight games, defeating Penn.

Alex Copeland had 15 points for Yale (154, 5-1 Ivy League). Blake Reynolds added 13 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Bruner had

12 points and seven rebounds for the hosts. Devon Goodman had 16 points for the Quakers (14-8, 2-4). Antonio Woods added 16 points. AJ Brodeur had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Yale plays Columbia on the road Friday. Penn matches up against Dartmouth at home Friday.
