Family escapes house fire in Trainer
TRAINER >> Firefighters were called to a house fire at the corner of Irving Street and West Second Avenue (Route 291) just before 3 p.m. Monday. Police reported fire showing from a rear second floor bedroom and began assisting residents and neighbors in an adjoining home to evacuate.
“It was a one-alarm fire and everyone evacuated safely,” said Marcus Hook-Trainer Fire Chief Alfonse Brooks. “The firefighters did a good job and had it under control in 15 minutes.”
Tears rolled down her checks as one of the residents told a reporter that she heard the fire alarm and got her children out.
“She had just purchased the detectors,” said Samantha Dimento, a family friend who comforted her as she watched firefighters extinguish the blaze.
Brooks said the adjoining home suffered smoke damage and the cause was under investigation by the fire marshal.
Aston, Eddystone, Reliance, Boothyn, Lower Chichester and Claymont Fire Companies assisted Marcus Hook-Trainer on the blaze along with Crozer paramedics who stood by at the scene.
