Musicians feature music of Grateful Dead this Friday

NETHER PROVIDENCE >> Community Arts Center’s Friday Night Live spring concert series kicks off with an unplugged evening of Grateful Dead tunes by local musicians and live art on Friday, Feb. 22, in the Duke Gallery at CAC, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingfor­d. Doors open at 7 p.m., compliment­ary snacks are provided and attendees are also welcome to bring their own food and beverages. All ages are welcome. Minors must be accompanie­d by an adult. Admission is $15, $10 for Community Arts Center members and free to CAC benefactor­s. Children 12 and under are $5.

Featuring seasoned musicians from the Philly Dead scene, the band for the acoustic Dead show will feature Michael Borowski on piano, Daniel Bower on drums, Anders Alfelt on bass and Daniel M. Dolla on guitar. Highlighti­ng the acoustic Americana roots of the Grateful Dead, the concert will include highlights from the band’s unique 1981 live acoustic album Reckoning, as well as other Grateful Dead favorites played in an unplugged style.

Live art will be created by local artists and CAC faculty members Drew Arata and Emily MacDonald. Created art will be sold by silent auction throughout the event.

Collingdal­e Historical Society to hold winter tea on March 2

The Collingdal­e Historical Society will host their annual Winter Tea 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Collingdal­e Church of the Nazarene, 212 MacDade Blvd. Tickets cost

Springfiel­d American Legion to host Veterans Info Night

Springfiel­d American Legion Post 227, in cooperatio­n with the Delaware County Director of Military and Veterans Affairs, will host a Veterans Informatio­n Night 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Springfiel­d Township Building, 50 Powell Road. The speakers will include John Sheaffer, DELCO Director of Military and Veterans Affairs and Bill Dondero, Benefits Coordinato­r, who will tell veterans what benefits are available and answer questions.

Additional­ly, Springfiel­d Legionnair­e Brian Mack will discuss and show documents of when his father was captured by the Nazis in WW II & later repatriate­d. The event is open to all veterans and spouses regardless of where they live. Light refreshmen­ts will be served.

Crozer-Keystone expands GI team in Ridley Park

Two area gastroente­rologists have become part of the Crozer-Keystone Health Network. Charles Hurwitz, D.O., and John Seedor, M.D., joined Crozer-Keystone Gastroente­rology Associates in January. Both have privileges at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park and Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill. They will continue practicing at 204 E. Chester Pike in Ridley Park, across from the Taylor Hospital campus.

Hurwitz earned his medical degree at the Des Moines College of Osteopathi­c Medicine and Surgery. He completed a residency at Detroit Osteopathi­c Hospital, and a gastroente­rology fellowship at Albany Medical College. He has also served as associate professor at Des Moines College, New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry, and Stratford Hospital in New Jersey.

Seedor earned a medical degree from Hahnemann College, completed an internship and residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center, and a gastroente­rology fellowship at Graduate Hospital in Philadelph­ia. He is a member of the Delaware County Medical Society.

Both Hurwitz and Seedor are board certified, have longstandi­ng reputation­s in the Ridley Park medical community, and have been named Top Doctor for gastroente­rology in Main Line Today.

Amvets chili cook-off set for Saturday

The Son of Amvets will hold their 7th annual Chili Cook-off 2-6 pm. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Amvets Post,
