In anticipation of signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Nick Foles authored a piece for the Players Tribune, one dripping with emotion.

In a nutshell, Foles said the first time he joined the Eagles, they chose him, as a draft pick, and the second time he came here, two years ago, he chose them. And his life has been better for it.

Foles said he chose the Eagles the second time around because he and his wife were expecting a baby and he loved Philly as a city, which was more important than the football side of it.

“My heart said Philly,” Foles wrote.

We all know how his choice ended. Foles stepped in for Carson Wentz and led the Eagles to their only Super Bowl championship in a shootout with Tom Brady, widely regarded as the sports GOAT.

Foles took MVP honors, went to Disney World, authored a book about his life and is immortalized in a sculpture in HeadHouse Square at Lincoln Financial Field. He and Eagles head coach Doug Pederson are depicted calling the Philly-Philly trick play in which Foles caught a touchdown pass from tight end Trey Burton in the Super Bowl.

Foles took over again last year when Wentz was hurt and sparked the Eagles to a playoff berth, and a postseason victory.

It was obvious all along to the Eagles they couldn’t keep Foles and the younger Wentz, and Foles wound up agreeing to a four-year deal worth $88 million with the Jaguars. The pact includes $50 million guaranteed.

In his thank you letter, Foles thanked his teammates and everyone he came into contact with working for the Eagles, from owner Jeffrey Lurie all the way down to the maintenance staff.

Most of all, he applauded Philadelphia for being so welcoming to him and his family:

“You will forever be a part of mine.”

Love Always,

Nick
