RADNOR >> The painters are back.

The Wayne Art Center Plein Air Festival kicked off Monday with the arrival of 32 juried artists who are spending the week capturing the beauty of spring in Delaware County and the region. Over five days they will document the landscape swiftly painting “en plein air” (French for open air) before moving on to the next location.

“There is just so much to paint in this region,” said Tim Kelly, 2018 Wayne Plein Air “Best In Show” winner, who is back again this year. “I enjoy painting architec- ture and cityscapes, while my counterparts visit area gardens to focus on flora, or venture out in search of landscapes and bodies of water. So not only do we artists enjoy an abundance of subject matter to choose from, the result is an enormous body of work that appeals to a diverse audience.”

The artists will be painting in downtown Wayne Saturday.

Wayne Art Center’s Plein Air Festival is recognized as one of the premiere plain air events in the country. An exhibition of their work will hang at Wayne Art Center beginning May 20 until the end of June.

While many of the artists are local, more than half come from regions stretching up and down the East Coast and Midwest.

The first Wayne Art Plein Air Festival was held in 2007. There are now $10,000 in awards.
