Delco libraries offer diverse programs this month

UPPER CHICHESTER >> Join in the fun as Upper Chichester Library hosts trips to the Comedy Playhouse and Winterthur this summer.

Playgoers will be treated to the farce “Divorce Southern Style” at Rainbow’s Comedy Playhouse on June

20. The trip costs $76, which includes transporta­tion, the show and lunch.

Garden lovers will appreciate a tour of the Winterthur museum, garden and library on July 9. The $40 cost includes transporta­tion and all admissions. Lunch is on your own. Buses will depart from and return to the library at 3374 Chichester Ave. #19, Upper Chichester. Visit or call the library at 610-485-0200 to reserve your seat.

“Previous cultural trips have been enthusiast­ically supported by the community,” stated Betsy Barnes, library director. “We are continuall­y taking the pulse of residents to determine which cultural events they enjoy best and are planning more in the future.” Also:

• Relieve body stiffness and stress at weekly Tai Cheng exercises. Free classes will be from 8:309:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Upper Chichester Fieldhouse at 8500 Furey Road. “For years medical experts have recommende­d the ancient Chinese practice of Tai Chi to improve balance and mobility,” said Barnes. “With Tai Cheng, Dr. Chang makes it easy for anyone to master the basic moves of Tai Chi. After a few classes, Tai Cheng will have you moving better, feeling better and having a stronger, more responsive body.”

Kids play bingo in Aston

ASTON >> Aston Public Library presents Free Kids Bingo Tuesday, May 28, at

6:30 p.m. This will also be a preview of the Summer Reading Program, “A Universe of Stories.”

• Free Chair Yoga class will be held Tuesdays at 2 p.m., starting May 14.

• Dream interprete­r Ken Kaplan will offer a program on “Connecting to Guides” at 11 a.m. Saturday, June

8. The program will discuss “cosmic helpers” who can assist you through life’s journey.

• Children can participat­e in the library’s coloring contest. Pick up an entry at the library or on the website at www.astonlibra­ry.org. The theme of the contest is “A Universe of Stories.” Winners will be displayed in the library.

• Check out a children’s book by local Astor author Barry Wilbank titled “Tommy and Tina Turtle: The Birthday! It’s available in the children’s area under the call number E WIL.

• If you’ve ever wanted to be an artist, get on the list for free painting classes by emailing Debbie at Debbie@astonlibra­ry.org.

• The Kids Can Build Club is held at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays. Children learn to build from using the library’s Lego collection and other materials. All ages are welcome.

• 3D printing services are available. Ask Debbie or Stephen at the ask how to get your first small 3D printed item for free.

• The library offers story times every week, open to everyone! Join Ms. Debbie for toddler time (ages

2-3) on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., infant time (up to 24 months) on Wednesdays at

10:30 a.m. and preschool time (ages 3-5) on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

• Stop by at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays to learn the art of crochet, and at 6 p.m. on Thursdays to participat­e in a wide variety of crafts.

• Need help with an eBook reader, laptop or tablet computer? Stop by for the library’s drop-in help time on Friday mornings – 10 a.m. for eBooks, and 11 a.m. for laptops and tablets.

Talk pollinatio­n in Concord

CONCORD >> The Delaware Museum of Natural History, in partnershi­p with the Longwood Garden Community Read, will present “Pollinatio­n Power” at 10:30 a.m. May 21 at the Rachel Kohl Community Library. The event will open with a reading from Ruth Heller’s book, “The Reason for a Flower,” followed by an interactiv­e learning experience about the important of flowers for the program, which will be held outside in the pavilion near the playground – so plan accordingl­y. Space will be limited so please call or visit the library to register.

• June 18, 6:30 pm. - The Secret Magic of Film and Broadway Songs – From the iconic film song Beauty and the Beast to the famous Broadway hit, Memory, popular songs have inspired all generation­s of music lovers. But what makes these pieces become so popular? Together we will explore the secret musical magic of some of the most beloved songs in film and Broadway. Presented by pianist and composer Jennifer Campbell (registrati­on required).

• June 19, 2 p.m. - Afternoon Book Club – The book club will be reading and discussing “The Immoralist­s” by Chloe Benjamin. And at 6:30 p.m., Evening Book Club members will be reading and discussing “The Zookeeper’s Wife” by Diane Ackerman.

• June 26, 6:30 p.m. Spotted Lanternfly Informatio­n Session – Learn about this invasive species, the threat it poses to our area, and how you can help prevent its spread. Presented by a Penn State Master Gardener.
