Arbogast’s hit a rally starter for Middletown

Matt Arbogast provided the key hit in a five-run outburst in the top of the ninth inning that propelled Middletown to a 9-5 victory over Springfiel­d in Delco Baseball League action Tuesday night.

Arbogast’s hit broke a 4-4 deadlock. Antonio Puzzangara went

2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, while Andrew Culp was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Tim O’Keefe pitched the final two innints to get the win.

Gabe Encarnacio­n (two hits, including a triple) and Rich Gallo (3for-4) led the way for Springfiel­d. In the Main Line Senior Legion playoffs:

NETHER PROVIDENCE 12, NORWOOD

3>> Andrew Yates fanned six in five innings and had two hits and three RBIs in the opener for the top-seeded Bulldogs. Nether Providence faces Haverford, a 1-0 winner over Concord, in the winners bracket Wednesday.

T.J. McNeely (two hits) and Matt Cicalese (one hit) drove in two runs each. Noah Atsaves chipped with two hits and one RBI.

In the Senior EDCO Quarterfin­als:

BRIARCLIFF­E 18, FOLCROFT 0 >> Sean Quigley (four innings) and Christian DiGalbo (three innings) combined on the shutout to complete the 2-0 sweep and move the defending champs to the semifinals.

Ty Bluford was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a double and two walks, while Jim Calabrese scored three times.

GARNET VALLEY 4, MARPLE I 3 >> Tyler Kessler’s two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, and the pitching of Steve James kept Concord alive.

Game 3 will be Thursday or Friday at a site to be determined.

Dave Ellison had an RBI double and Dan Close clubbed two-run homer for GV. James fanned 10 and threw a game-ending double play with the tying run on third base in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the District 19 Little League: Brendan Till’s RBI single in in the fourth inning propelled Newtown-Edgmont to the 12U title with a 7-3 victory over Ridley Area Monday night.

Till’s hit gave NELL a 4-3 lead. The team added a single run in the fifth inning and back-to-back homers by Ryan Stoddard and Brady Abate in the sixth inning to seal the victory. The homer was Abate’s second of the game. He slugged a two-run shot in the third inning to put NELL up 3-2. He also pitched the final three innings.

Starter Grady McTear had one hit and scored twice. Jack Maholick added a double and a run scored and Donny Reick pitched in with one hit and one RBI. This group also won the District 19 title as 11- and 10-year-olds.

In the Delco MSBL:

MEDIA MUSTANGS 6, ASTON MARAUDERS 1 >> Winning pitcher Gary Prugh and reliever Tim Peacock combined on an eight-hitter Monday night.

Kevin Toler, Matt Palmer, Mark Zoba and Chris Thomas drove in one run each, while Jim Diorisio pitched in with a double.

Diving

Paige Dyer lead a nearly clean sweep as Ridley Park topped Tinicum, 31-13, in the Delco League.

Dyer won the junior girls division with a score of 121.75.Lea Stout (novice, 72.95), Joe Weber (junior boys, 83.10) and Meaghan Drum (senior girls, 151.40) were the other winners for Ridley Park.

Caleb Arnot captured the boys senior division (161.75) for Tinicum.

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP 36, KARAKUNG 9 >> Mason Beck’s win in the senior division (223.55) completed the sweep for Ridley Township. Abby Crawford (novice, 68.40), Ava Keller (junior girls, 138.10), Shane Eckler (junior boys, 158.70) and haley Cubler (senior girls, 167.15) were the other winners for Ridley Township.

Swimming

Addison Schwelm set three pool records to lead Broomall’s Lake to a 253-221 triumph over Brookhaven in the Delco Swim League Monday.

Schwelm set the Broomall’s Lake records in the 10U butterfly

(15.70) and freestyle (31.62). She also teamed with Morgan Peterson, Amelia Reno and Addison Strasser to set the record in the

10U free relay (1:04.34). Riley Viner (10U free, back, fly), Ruby Schwelm (IM, free, fly), Charlotte Dunne (8U fly, breast, medley relay), Conor Grace (8U fly, breast, medley relay), Nolan Gratton (8U fly, breast, medley relay), Ella Sleutaris (14U free, breast, free relay) and Mailey Kaugh (14U IM, breast, free relay) were triple winners for Broomall’s Lake.

Brookhaven’s Emma Atkinson set the pool record in the 18U IM

(1:06.20), 50 back (29.44) and was on the team that set the free relay mark (1:56.20). Sebastian Graham

(12U IM, fly, free), Nick Fursman

(18U IM, breast, free relay), Keely Durkin (18U fly, free, free relay) and Tim Gauzza (18U fly, free, free relay) were the other triple winners for Brookhaven.
