Kraiza hits, pitches UDHL to state tourney win

Dylan Kraiza came up big for UDHL in the Babe Ruth 13s state tournament Thursday.

Kraiza’s double in the fourth inning drove in the go-ahead run and UDHL held on for a 4-3 win over West End. UDHL continues pool play action Friday morning.

Kraiza finished 2-for-3 and earned the win on the mound with 2.2 innings of work.

Brandon Dunbar walked, stole a base, scored a run and recorded the final two outs for the save.

Brandon Newman chipped in with an RBI single and played great defense at shortstop for UDHL. Nick Fratengeli also provided a boost, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. He also pitched an inning.

In the Babe Ruth 14s

BROOMALL-NEWTOWN 13, MIFFLIN COUNTY 0>> Justin Brennan scattered three hits while striking out three over six innings as B-N cruised in pool play.

Alex Bruno’s double in the first inning put B-N ahead 2-0. Owen Mathes added an RBI double and Johnny Small connected on a single during B-N’s four-run state tournament: sixth inning.

B-N registered 19 hits, including four each by Small and Mathes. Josh Freiling excelled on defense and Mike Govan pitched a scoreless seventh inning to secure the shutout.

Swimming

Springfield Country Club defeated Prospect Park in an Intra-County League meet, 287-199.

Leading the way were triple winners Jacob Johnson (12U individual medley, butterfly, breaststroke), Michael Brattini (14U backstroke, freestyle, free relay), Zach Anderson (18U butterfly, freestyle, free relay), Brandon Decker (butterfly, freestyle, free relay), Katie Letcher (18U butterfly, freestyle, free relay), Tughe Weiss (8U backstroke, freestyle, free relay), Kiearan Phelan (10U backstroke, freestyle, free relay) and Tyler Rush (10U butterfly, breaststroke, free relay).

Madison Ford (8U butterfly, breaststroke, freestyle), Erin Keeney (10U backstroke, breaststroke, free relay) and Miranda Barone (12U butterfly, breaststroke, free relay) all won three events for Prospect Park.
