Delco man draws prison for molesting child in Montco
NORRISTOWN >> A 70-year-old Wallingford, Delaware County, man was sent to state prison after he admitted to having indecent contact with a 10-year-old girl in Lower Providence.
Richard Craig Wolbers, of the
200 block of North Providence Road, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 18-to36-months in a state correctional facility on felony charges of indecent assault, corruption of a minor and endangering the welfare of a child in connection with an October 2018 incident at a Lower Providence residence he was visiting.
Judge Todd D. Eisenberg also ordered Wolbers to complete eight years of probation following parole, meaning Wolbers will be under court supervision for a total of 11 years.
Eisenberg ordered Wolbers to have no contact with the victim or the victim’s immediate family as a condition of the sentence.
With the charges, prosecutors alleged Wolbers kissed the girl using his tongue and touched her in an inappropriate manner while she was in his company at a residence in the Trooper section of Lower Providence on Oct. 7, 2018.
Deputy District Attorney Samantha Cauffman alleged Wolbers committed the acts for the purpose of his own sexual gratification.
Wolbers was represented by defense lawyer Joseph Lesniak, of Media.
As a result of his guilty plea, Wolbers also faces a 25-year requirement to report his address to state police in order to comply with Pennsylvania’s Sexual Offender Registration and
Notification Act.
An investigation of Wolbers began on Oct. 9, 2018, when Lower Providence police received a report that the child had been molested while in Wolbers’s company. The victim reported the incident to her parents and the victim’s sibling told the parents she witnessed the incident and that Wolbers was “treating (the victim) like a girlfriend,” according
to the criminal complaint filed by Lower Providence Detective Scott A. Dreibelbis.
The victim subsequently was interviewed by authorities.
“The information provided by the child victim during the interview was consistent with what was initially reported to the parents on October 8, 2018,” Dreibelibis wrote in the criminal complaint.
