Two Radnor teams advance in District 1 doubles

There are eight teams left in the District 1 Class 3A girls doubles tournament. Two are from Radnor.

Top-seeded Kanon Ciarrocchi and Lucy Hederick and unseeded Annie Burton and Bridget Dougherty of Radnor advanced to the quarterfin­als of the district tournament.

The top four teams qualify for the PIAA championsh­ips.

After receiving a bye in the first round Ciarrocchi and Hederick defeated Riley Burke and Isabel Mejia of SpringFord, 6-1, 6-1, to stay alive. They will play eighth-seeded Shaina Ginsberg and Allison Liao in the quarterfin­als Saturday at the Healthplex (12:30 p.m.)

Burton and Dougherty beat Ella Chang and Katie Lu of Wissahicko­n 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round and upset seventhsee­ded Tanya Pant and Sophia Koons of Downingtow­n West, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. They face second-seeded Leen Kwak and Olivia Dodge of Conestoga in the quarterfin­als.

Sallay Tholley and Taylor Davis of Penn Wood lost to Hanna Kim and Katie Chan of Methacton, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round.

In Class 2A, second-seeded Brette Foutch and Sarah Stahl of Delco Christian advanced to the semifinals. They beat seventh-seeded Sam Pizer and Molly Walsh of Jenkintown,

6-0, 6-1 and third-seeded Isabella Kellner and Tess Flanigan of Gwynedd Mercy, 6-2,

6-1.They will play top-seeded Ally Cheiken and Maeve McErlean of Lower Moreland in the final Saturday at 1:30. Only the district champion qualifies for the state tournament.

Boys Soccer

MJ Atkins scored twice and Luke Macaione had one goal and one assist as The Haverford School blanked Penn Charter, 6-0, in the Inter-Ac League.

Zion Georges and Carson DeMarco had two assists apiece. Asher Lachman, Zach Seaman and Charlie Sommer also scored for the Fords.

SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL 3, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 1 >> Brendan DePillis converted a pass from Jackson Tuma to get the Churchmen (4-6-4, 2-4-0) on the board in the second half. Trevor Manion made four saves in goal.

In nonleague action:

RADNOR 2, WISSAHICKO­N 0 >> Danny Kelly and Michael Sears found the back of the net as the Raiders (12-2-3) closed out the regular season with a win. Cole Schwartz made six saves to post the shutout, while Danny Rosenblum and Bobby Hydrisko had one assist each.

CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 4, SPRINGFIEL­DMONTCO 2 >> Jesse Brittain and Caleb Chamblers led the way with one goal and assist each. Sophomores Evan Sareyka and Moses Uzele added one goal each and goalie Sam Geathers turned back 11 shots. The only goals he allowed came on penalty kicks. C.B. EAST 4, DELCO CHRISTIAN 1 >> Josiah Bronkema made seven saves in goal for the Knights and DC’s lone tally was an own goal.

UPPER DARBY 2, ACADEMY PARK 0 >> Jonathan Stanczak had one goal and one assist, and Bryan Tierra and Alex Aguilera combined on 10 saves to record the shutout. David Rodriguez also scored for the Royals.

Girls Soccer

Bella Piselli and Kendal Ellison powered Episcopal Academy to a 3-0 victory over Penn Charter in the Inter-Ac League. Piselli scored the first two goals and Ellison had one goal and one assist.

Field Hockey

Kelly Smith scored on a penalty stroke 1:18 into overtime to lift Episcopal Academy to a 4-3 Inter-Ac League victory over Germantown Academy.

Smith finished with two assists. Ashley Sessa paced the attack with two goals, while Kathleen Anderson pitched in with one goal.

AGNES IRWIN 2, NOTRE DAME 1 >> Riley Gillin’s goal in the first half was the difference for the Irish. Mia Leonhardt tallied the first goal off a pass from Abby D’Anjollel.

Hadley Evans put home a pass from Ari Karalis and Jordan Healy made 10 saves in goal for the Owls.
