100 Years Ago – 1919: Complete in all its appointmen­ts, and said by many to be the most perfectly equipped operating rooms in the state of Pennsylvan­ia, there will be formally added to the Chester Hospital the Margaret A. Houston Memorial Building. T.E. Houston, of Cincinnati, will present the building. The public invited to be present at the dedication, and to make a tour of the entire hospital plant.

75 Years Ago – 1944: Rain upset the Saturday program for the football fans today. The featured fray, scheduled for the PMC Stadium between Chester High and Ridley

Park, has been postponed until Monday afternoon. The site has also been changed and Monday’s meeting will be at Ridley Park.

50 Years Ago – 1969: The Chichester School Board adopted a resolution Tuesday night permitting pay raises and promising no reprisals against district teachers who went on a two-day strike last June. The resolution, a compromise designed to protect both the board and the teachers, must be approved by the Chichester Education Associatio­n at

8:30 tonight in the Memorial United Presbyteri­an Church, on Chichester Avenue. An audible sigh of relief rose from the crowd of about 90 people, most of them teachers, when the board passed the resolution, 7-1.

25 Years Ago – 1994: Inadequate school supplies, overcrowde­d classrooms and disciplina­ry problems are stifling teaching in the Chester Upland School District, frustrated educators told the superinten­dent yesterday. Teachers detailed their concerns to Superinten­dent Dr. Joanne Manning during a forced meeting mid-way through a scheduled day long, inservice forum on district policy at Chester High. “She was gracious in accepting our request,” teacher Ken Hunt said of Manning. 10 Years Ago – 2009: As part of its 70th anniversar­y celebratio­n, Aldan’s Colonial Playhouse will kick off its first fundraisin­g drive in over a decade with a very special event on Saturday at Romarco’s Restaurant, Clifton Heights. To commemorat­e their historic season, the members of Colonial have begun making muchneeded and long overdue improvemen­ts to their beloved playhouse. Recent efforts include a new stage floor, insulated auditorium walls and ceiling, new fans, a new paint job, and an upgraded ventilatio­n system.
