Volunteers needed for free community tax sites
UPPER CHICHESTER » The Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) is seeking volunteers for its free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites. CAADC is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic individuals who would like to serve their community by helping lowand moderate income families in Delaware County complete their taxes. Positions include volunteer schedulers, screeners, greeters, tax preparers and quality reviewers. No experience is necessary as training. IRS-certification and resources will be provided.
The Agency will be operating sites in Boothwyn, Upper Darby, Sharon Hill and Chester. Last year CAADC helped over 1,000 families. Volunteers should be able to commit to at least one 4-hour shift a week during the tax season of late January — April 15. W-S School District and Notre Dame receive safety grants
State Rep. Leanne Krueger announced this week that school safety grants were awarded to Wallingford-Swarthmore School District and Notre Dame de Lourdes School in the Swarthmorewood section of Ridley Township.
The grants were included in
$7.3 million in competitive 201920 Safe Schools Targeted Grants awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Grants are awarded to prevent and reduce violent incidents, purchase safety and security-related equipment and to provide for the training and compensation of school resource and police officers.
Wallingford-Swarthmore School District was awarded a $20,000 program grant, and Notre Dame de Lourdes was awarded a $14,595 program grant.
St. Herman’s holds annual Russian Food Festival and Shopping Extravaganza
Saint Herman Orthodox Church,
1855 Middletown Rd., Glen Mills will hold its annual Russian Food Festival and Shopping Extravaganza Festival Noon-8 p.m., Nov.
8-9, and Nov. 10, Noon-4 p.m. Admission is free and there is plenty of free parking. The event will be held rain or shine.
Participants can enjoy authentic perogies, stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes and more, including homemade baked goods. People can eat in or take out, tour the church, shop for jewelry, gifts, rare religious items, and collectibles from around the world. Vendors needed for Girl Scout vendor fair
Girl Scout Troop 55 will hold a Pancake Breakfast and Vendor Fair Nov. 17 at the Aston Community Center. Breakfast will held 8 a.m.Noon. Vendor tables cost $25 each.

College holds grand opening in Prospect Park
Harcum College in Prospect Park will have a grand opening celebration 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 26. I-LEAD and Harcum College launched a new partnership location at Prospect United Methodist Church, 800 Lincoln Ave., where adult students can attend college classes two evenings a week on a full-time basis and earn an accredited Associate Degree in Human Services or Early Childhood Education.

Peace Center offers legislation discussion, ‘Farenheit 11/9’ film
The Peace Center of Delaware County, located at Springfield Friends Meeting, 1001 Old Sproul Rd., Springfield, will host a talk and discussion on legislation to restrict the Authorization of Use of Military Force (AUMF) 7:30 p.m,. Monday, Oct. 28. Norman Janes, a Delaware County Advocacy Team Member for the Friends Committee on National Legislation(FCNL), will lead the discussion.
The Peace Center will also present Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 11/9” 7 p.m., Nov. 1, as part of its
First Friday free large screen film series. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for light refreshments. FAHRENHEIT 11/9 is rated R for language and some disturbing images and is 120 minutes in length.

Free program on inheritance issues offered in Brookhaven
Robert and Dana Breslin, Esq., will present a free presentation about inheritance taxes 1 p.m., Nov. 14 at the Brookhaven Municipal Building, 2 Cambridge Rd., Brookhaven. The presentation will address how heirs must pay taxes due to the way assets are titled, will there be more or less inheritance taxes, when the state or nursing home get assets, steps that people can take to avoid future estate problems and more.

Holmes Presbyterian Church hosts spaghetti dinner youth group fundraiser
Holmes Presbyterian Church,
375 Holmes Rd., will hold their annual Spaghetti Dinner/Bake Sale to benefit their youth group, Nov. 16 from 4:30-7:30 p.m.. Dinner includes a beverage, bread, salad, dinner, and dessert. Tickets are $9.50 for adults, and $4 for children.
