The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has reopened the bridge carrying Market Street over Amtrak and SEPTA railroad tracks in Marcus Hook and Lower Chichester Township.

Work will continue through April 2020 to construct and improve pedestrian access to SEPTA facilities, which may require periodic lane restrictions on the bridge, but no full closures are planned, according to PennDOT.

The old 17-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge was replaced with a new four-span, continuous prestressed box beam bridge. The new structure is 343 feet long, 40 feet wide, and was constructed on a new alignment and widened to meet current design standards. The bridge approaches were also regraded and resurfaced to enhance travel and safety.

Road-Con, Inc., of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $21,392,398 project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
