Randle rushes for three TDs, leads Widener to win

- Staff and wire reports

Chris Randle made sure his final game at Quick Stadium was one to remember.

The senior running back ran for three touchdowns to lead Widener to a 41-21 victory over King’s College Saturday.

Randle scored on runs of 12, five and one yard to move into a tie for third place on the career list for rushing touchdowns with

27. He has 11 this season, a personal best. Quarterback Sean McGaughey threw for

242 yards and one touchdown to become the third quarterback in Widener history to pass for 3,000 yards in a season. The touchdown pass, a 48-yard to Ryan Gallagher, was his 50th of his career. Gallagher set career highs for receptions (six) and receiving yards (119).

Widener (5-4 overall, 4-3 MAC) scored 21 points in the second quarter to take a 24-7 lead into the locker room at halftime and sealed the victory on Randle’s two touchdown runs in the fourth quarter.

Owen Kramer paced the defense with five tackles, including three for loss and two sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. The win kept the Pride alive for a spot in the Centennial/MAC Bowls Series. Widener travels to Doylestown to take on No. 13 Delaware Valley for the Keystone Cup. PENN 21, CORNELL 20 >> Owen Goldsberry’s 80-yard touchdown bomb to Eric Markes proved to be the difference for the Quakers.

A backup quarterback, Goldsberry caught a designed lateral from starting quarterback Nick Robinson, who threw to the left side of the field. Golsberry then launched a pass from Penn’s 17-yard line , throwing to Markes who caught it at the

Penn 40 and ran untouched into the end zone for a 21-14 lead with 13:21 left to play.

However, Cornell went on a 16-play, 94yard scoring drive that took 7½ minutes and ended when Richie Kenney threw a 10yard score to Phazione McClurge to make it 21-20 with 50 seconds left.

Cornell opted for a 2-point conversion, but freshman Kendren Smith broke up a pass attempt and kept the Penn (4-4, 2-3 Ivy League) lead at a point. Cornell’s (2-6,

1-4) onside kick went out of bounds and the Quakers ran out the clock.
