Quinn announces three grants approved for Delaware County transportation projects
MEDIA » Rep. Chris Quinn (R-Delaware) recently announced Middletown Township, Media Borough and Upper Providence Township have been awarded transportation grants from the Multimodal Transportation Fund.
Middletown Township has been awarded $2 million for construction of a Loop Road near the PA Route 452 and U.S. Route
1 intersection. This extremely important Loop Road will result in two new signalized intersections and feature new connections to the existing CVS and Chick-Fil-A, in addition to a planned service road featuring a proposed Wawa and new bank.
Media Borough has been awarded $100,000 for the implementation of safer crosswalks featuring the installation of pedestrian signals with audible, vibrotactile and visual features. In addition to these features, the project will also include new crosswalks, pedestrian signage and ADA-compliant curbs.
Upper Providence Township has been awarded
$100,000 for streetscape improvements including design and construction of crosswalks, ADA curb ramps, signage, pavement markings, and pedestrian school flashing warning devices along North Providence Road and Sandybank Road.
These projects are funded by Multimodal Transportation Fund Program.
Donations sought for Nativity BVM food drive
Nativity BVM CYO will host its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive 6-7:30 p.m., Nov. 18. Those in the community can drop off donations of turkeys, canned food, pasta, coffee, cereal and other nonperishable items at the Nativity BVM Parish Center, Franklin and Gayley Sts., Media. Donors can conveniently pull up their cars and CYO members will unload the items. Media VFW holds tailgate fundraiser Saturday
The Media VFW, 11 Hilltop Rd., will host its first tailgate fundraiser to help support vets 3-6 p.m., Nov.
16. Doors will open at 2 p.m. and the buffet begins at 3 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under
12. Everyone is welcome.
St. Timothy Church holds penny party
St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 535 Lamp Post Lane, Aston, will sponsor a Penny Party 7 p.m., Nov. 22. The doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by calling the church office, 610-494 2444 during office hours.
PRC welcomes entries in ‘Lens on Litter’ photo contest
The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) invites student and adult amateur photographers throughout the state to enter the 35th annual Gene Capaldi Lens on Litter Photo Contest designed to highlight the impact of litter on the environment and scenic qualities of the Commonwealth.
Entrants are encouraged to focus their lenses on not just the litter but also the visual and environmental impacts of litter. Winning photographers receive cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively, in both student and adult categories. Complete contest rules and an online submission form are available at www.prc.org/ lens-litter. Originals may also be mailed to the Pennsylvania Resources Council, 3606 Providence Rd., Newtown Square, PA 19073. Entries will be accepted through December 31.

TEDx Rose Tree comes to Media Theatre on Tuesday
TEDx RoseTree, the first TEDx Conference in Delaware County will begin 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Media Theatre, 104 E. State St., Media. At least half of the speakers chosen to share their “ideas worth spreading” are from Delaware County.
Bringing TEDx to Media was the idea of local resident Stacy Olkowski. She has put together a group of volunteers, raised the funds, and worked with local businesses, the borough and a team of local residents who have volunteered their time and energy to create this first TEDx Conference. The “x” stands for locally organized TED.

Tickets available for annual Slavic Christmas Dinner
Holy Myrrh-Bearers Eastern Catholic Church, 900 Fairview Rd., Swarthmore will hold its annual Slavic Christmas Dinner Noon, Dec. 15. Menu will consist of stuffed cabbage, pierogis, Halushki (cabbage with noodles), kielbasa and sauerkraut, ham, homemade desserts and beverages. The event will include a themed basket raffle and a visit from Saint Nick. Tickets are $15 for adults, kids 8-12 cost $8 and kids seven and under are free. DCIU offers free parent training in behavior management
The Delaware County Intermediate Unit will offer a free workshop 6-8 p.m. Dec. 3, to help parents better navigate the often-challenging roadmap of educating their children with disabilities or learning challenges who may need extra help. “Managing Challenging Behaviors at Home” will focus on providing parents with an understanding of the behavioral cycle. Parents will be provided with strategies for minimizing the triggers that set the behaviors in motion. They will also be given strategies for managing their child’s behaviors at each of the stages in the cycle.
The workshop will be held at the DCIU Morton Education Center, 200 Yale Ave, Morton.Kelly Fager, professional development specialist, will be the presenter.

Rep. Krueger holds expungement clinic to clear records
Rep. Leeanne Krueger will host an Expungement Clinic 6:30 p.m., Nov. 21 in Delaware County. Attorneys will be available to provide information and discuss options that might be available for clearing a person’s record. In some cases, attorneys might be able to file paperwork for record expungement. If expungement is not an option, additional resources will be offered.
