100Years Ago – 1919: To discharged soldiers – How did you spend Thanksgivi­ng Day of last year? The war was over for only a short time before the Armistice had been signed. Write the story of that day briefly, on one side of the paper, and the Times will publish it at Thanksgivi­ng time. Unquestion­ably it was a day you will never forget. Let your friends know about it.

75Years Ago – 1944: A 13-year-old city boy, missing since Sept. 30from his home at 1911W. Second St., was picked up by Patrolman Vankoski at the Scott Paper Co. gates last night after being taken into custody by Guard John Downer. The youth was turned over to juvenile authoritie­s and a bicycle in his possession, which he told Vankoski he had stolen in the West End, was taken to the police station.

50Years Ago – 1969: More than 34youths were arrested Saturday night in Delaware County in two separate incidents involving underage drinking. In Ridley Township, police said they picked up about 20youths between ages 18and 20, and number of juveniles under 18. Sharon Hill police reported arrests of

14persons and said at least six escaped arrest by fleeing.

25Years Ago – 1994: By a

5-to-3vote at a special meeting last night, the Penn-Delco School Board approved a

$2.73million plan to renovate Aston Elementary School. Renovation­s are expected to begin this winter. The approved plan, one of four options discussed, includes converting Aston Elementary’s second-floor library into two classrooms and constructi­ng a new 2,000-square-foot library addition on the ground level. By adding two classrooms, school capacity will increase to 500student­s. There are currently 453 students at Green Ridge Elementary School. The plan involves those students moving into Aston Elementary after renovation­s are complete, hopefully next fall but no later than January 1996, the board said last night.
