Bench steps up as Swarthmore says unbeaten

Balance and bench scoring were the key once again as top-ranked Swarthmore remained undefeated with an 89-72 victory over Arcadia in men’s basketball action Sunday.

Connor Harkins came off the bench and scored a game-high 18 points to lead five players in double figures. The reserves accounted for 42 points.

George Visconti and Colin Shaw contribute­d 13 points each.

Nate Shaffer had 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots, and Justin Tucker chipped in with 10 points off the bench.

NEUMANN 72, KUEKA

68 >> Nasir Cassel hit a jumper with 32 seconds left to break a 68all deadlock, and Haneef Vaughn added a pair of three throws in the final eight seconds to secure the victory in the thirdplace game of the Holiday Inn Downtown Rochester tournament.

Vaughn finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Mitchell pitched in with 18 points and nine boards.

Sanoussi Abdourhamn­e (12 points, six reounds) and Cassell (10 points, eight rebounds) also reached double digits for the Knights (5-4).

Women’s Basketball

Hot shooting from the start propelled Drexel to a

62-52 victory over Saint Joseph’s in the 26th annual Hawk Classic at Hagan Arena.

The Dragons shot 50 percent from the field in the first quarter to take a 15-7 lead and never look back. Bailey Greenberg paced the Dragons with a game-high

24 points.

Hannah Nihill (Cardinal O’Hara All-Delco) added nine points and three assists. Maura Hendrixson (Cardinal O’Hara AllDelco) and Mariah Leonard scored nine points apiece.

Gabby Smalls tallied 12 points, and Katie Jekot added 10 points for the Hawks.

NAVY 61, LA SALLE 56 >> The Midshipwom­en slowly pulled away to top the

Explorers in the championsh­ip game of the Navy Classic.

Sophie Gatzounas led three Navy players in double figures with a gamehigh 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to snap La Salle’s five-game winning streak.

Kayla Spruill paced the Explorers (6-2) with 14 points and five rebounds. Christina Kline chipped in 11 points.
