Pierre-Louis scores 15 to lead Temple past Davidson

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. >> Nate Pierre-Louis scored 15 points and Quinton Rose added 14 as Temple beat Davidson 66-53 in the fifthplace game Sunday at the Orlando Invitation­al.

Jake Forrester, who received an NCAA waiver Tuesday that made him eligible to play this season, had eight of his season-high

10 points during the second half for the Owls (6-1).

“Our strength in numbers is important,” firstyear Temple head coach Aaron McKie said. “You’ve got to have some depth with your team.”

Forrester, who played

13 games as a freshman last season for Indiana, appeared in all three contests in the tournament.

Davidson (3-5) got 16 points from Luka Brajkovic and Carter Collins had 12. Kellan Grady, who had averaged 21.5 points in the Wildcats’ first two games of the tourney, was held to just 11 by the Owls.

The Wildcats were outscored 36-20 during the second half.

PENN 95, LONG BEACH STATE

79 >> Jordan Dingle had 19 of his 21 points in the second half as Penn won at the Wooden Legacy.

The game was tied at 43 at halftime but the Quakers shot 56 percent in the second half, going 8 of 18 from 3-point range. Six different players hit from behind the arc with Dingle connecting three times.

Dingle opened the second half with a 3, added a layup to cap a 7-0 run and Penn turned that into a 13-4 run to lead 56-47 five minutes in. Threepoint­ers helped the Quakers work the lead as high as 15, and then a 13-2 run broke the game open. Dingle’s dunk made it 87-66 with 4:22 to play.

Chance Hunter had 24 points for the Beach (36). Colin Slater added 18 points. Joshua Morgan had

15 points.
