Love kicks off season with pair of victories

Kyle Love hit the ground running in the first meet of the indoor track season.

The Bonner-Prendergas­t junior won the 55-meter hurdles and the triple jump at the Ursinus Invitation­al Saturday, taking home two of the five Delaware County individual gold medals on the day.

Love coasted past the hurdles field in 7.93 seconds, the only one to break the eight-second barrier. In the triple jump, Love leaped

41 feet, 2.25 inches, winning the crown by more than a foot.

The field was fertile ground for Delco boys, with Haverford’s Collin Ney and Chasen Wint winning events. Ney was tops in the long jump at 20-9. Wint used a put of 565.25 to edge Thomas Kitchell of Notre Dame-Green Pond by two inches. Wint’s teammates Eric Tanz and Michael Powel were fourth and fifth, respective­ly, with BonnerPren­die’s Chilekasi Adele in third.

Delco swept the shot put in both genders, with Kayla Thorpe dominating the girls field, the Upper Darby senior winning by seven feet with a toss of 41-6.75.

Bonner-Prendergas­t also got a silver medal from Enoobong Eka in the 400 dash, with Upper Darby’s Aaron Williams and Shawn Maxwell in third and fifth, respective­ly. UD’s Joseph Ricciardi was third in the 3,000 meters. Academy Park’s Ian Francis and Brian Daniels finished third and fifth, respective­ly, in the 200 dash.

Haverford took home the boys 4 x 400 meter relay, with Upper Darby third and Academy Park fourth. Springfiel­d was fourth in the boys distance medley relay.

On the girls side, Brianna Foster nabbed a medal in the 55-meter dash, finishing third with a time of 7.41 seconds. She also finished fifth in the long jump.

Beth Schearer had a memorable debut, the Springfiel­d freshman taking second in the 200 dash. Keara Seasholtz of Radnor finished second in the 400 meters, Lauren Cawley of Penncrest was fourth in the mile and Springfiel­d’s Renee Stevenson was fourth in the shot put.

Wrestling

Sun Valley got its season off to a good start.

Nate Brooks (106), Shane Holefelder (126), Danny Kearney (132), Ryan Catka (195) and two-time Wrestler of the Year Hunter Catka (285) all went 5-0 as the Vanguards won the Havreford Duals.

Sun Valley knocked off Church Farm (68-10), Episcopal Academy (52-27), Cheltenham (67-12), Haverford (3930) and Strath Haven (42-33) to win the title.

Alex Williams and Vince Warrington both went 4-1 for the Vanguards. INTERBORO THIRD AT BOYERTOWN » Aiden McDevitt, Jacob Finley, Victor Quintilian­a and Shalom Thomas all went

5-0 to help the Bucs go 3-2 and finish third in the Boyertown Duals.

Interboro fell to Council Rock North (34-31), defeated Souderton (70-12), Dallas (754) and Boyertown (38-37) before dropping a 45-33 decision to Bethlehem Liberty in the third-place match. Isiah Fusaro, Jon Phillips and Aaron Stankiewic­z all went

4-1 for the Bucs.

Kevin Puliti and Sam DiTrolio were 5-0 as Garnet Valley finished seventh. The Jaguars lost to Liberty (3328), Governor Mifflin (39-19) and Owen J. Roberts (52-21) before defeating Truman (5513) and Souderton (57-22). Nick Mahoney was 4-1 for GV, while Matt Ricci went 3-1.
