Willauer seals swim victory for Chichester girls

Chichester’s Kelsie Willauer put the finishing touches on the Eagles’ 83-77 girls swimming victory over Bensalem Monday afternoon.

Chi led by two points at the start of the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay. Swimming anchor, Willauer was able to close nearly a 25-yard lead to touch the wall first for the win.

In addition to her clutch performanc­e in the 400 free relay, Willauer claimed first place in the 100 free with a time of 1:17.13.

Other winners for Chi were Caty Bishop, who was a triplewinn­er (200 free, 500 free, 200 free relay). Kate Parag was victorious in the 100 backstroke and led off the Eagles’ winning 200 free relay.

Boys Swimming

Luke Schealer, Matt Sendek and Cory Kan each won two races in Chichester’s 78-63 loss to Bensalem.

Schealer won the 100 backstroke in 1:13.06, Sendek took top honors in the 100 breaststro­ke in 1:17.72, and Kan triumphed in the 500 free with a time of 6:22.50. All three swimmers helped Chi’s 400 free relay to victory in 4:15.94.

Brendan Lindsay placed first in the diving event with a score of 127.06.

Girls Basketball

Erin Sweeney tallied 21 of her game-high 23 points in the first half as Archbishop Carroll rolled to a 69-57 nonleague victory at North Penn.

Sweeney injured her ankle in the fourth quarter and did not return. The senior guard was the second-leading scorer in Delaware County last year.

Grace O’Neill poured in 16 points for the Patriots (2-0), who outscored the host Maidens 25-15 in the second quarter.

Karli Dougherty played a stellar floor game with eight points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.

In other nonleague action: CARDINAL O’HARA 40, BISHOP SHANAHAN 23 » Sydni Scott scored 12 points and Amaris Baker chipped in with 11 for the Lions (2-0), who held the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter andf led 22-6 at halftime.

In the Catholic League: BONNER-PRENDERGAS­T 62, HALLAHAN 18 » Bridie McCann drained three 3-point field goals and finished with a game-high 13 points for the Pandas. Regan Dolan (11) and Alexis Gleason also reached double figures in scoring.

Boys Basketball

Malik Edwards and Tyreese Watson tallied 17 points each as Bonner-Prendergas­t held off Overbrook, 59-57.

Watson scored 11 of his points in the first half to stake the Friars to a 24-21 halftime lead. Ewards tallied eight points in the third quarter as BonnerPren­die extended its advantage to 46-31.

Boys Hockey

Matt Beck certainly was in the holiday spirit Monday night. He was in a giving mood.

The senior doled out six assists to pace Cardinal O’Hara to a 7-3 ICSHL crossover victory over Downingtow­n East at the Skatium.

Beck assisted on each goal as the Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. He added two more helpers as O’Hara extended its lead to 7-0 before the Cougars broke the shutout bid.

Brendan McGroary added one goal and three assists. Greg Diamond collected two goals and Nick McKay pitched in with one goal and one assist.
