Lafayette rolls to hand Widener its first loss

It took a Division I team to knock Division III Widener from the ranks of the undefeated.

Lafayette shot nearly 50 percent from

3-point range and used its size advantage to dominate the paint and roll to a 96-56 victory over the visiting Pride Thursday night.

The Leopards (7-2) connected on 16 of 33 attempts from 3-point range and outscored Widener in the paint, 30-16, to extend their winning streak to four games and hand Widener (10-1) its first loss of the season.

Justin Jaworski had a perfect shooting night en route to a game-high 28 points. He was 9-for-9 from the field, 3-for-3 from deep and 7-for-7 at the free throw line. E.J. Stephen chipped in with 12 points.

Connor Laverty, Elijah Boyd and Steven Matlack scored nine points each and Koley Woodard added eight for Widener.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 84, WILLIAM & MARY 69 >> Ryan Daly and Myles Douglas combined for

46 points to help the Hawks (3-9) snap an eight-game losing streak.

Daly, the 2016 Daily Times Player of the Year from Archbishop Carroll, had another monster game. The redshirt junior scored 27 points to lead four SJU players in double figures. He also grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out six assists.

Douglas had 19 points and six boards. Anthony Longpre finished with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Chereef Knox pitched in with 10 points.

Women’s Basketball

A fourth-quarter run doomed Neumann in a 54-40 loss to Wilkes.

The Knights got within 38-34 when the Colonels went on a 10-3 run in the final period to break the game open. Maddie Kelley led Wilkes (6-4) with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Terea Hunt scored nine points and Jaylin Ortiz and Chelsea Keebler added eight points each for the Knights (4-7).
