Velez breaks women’s scoring record at PSU Brandywine

-

Nikki Velez became Penn State Brandywine’s all-time leading scorer Friday night by pouring in

29 points and leading the Lions to an 88-66 victory at Penn State Fayette’s Lemont Furnace campus.

The senior out of Gloucester City High needed 19 points to break Dana Johnson-Altobelli’s career scoring mark of 1,519 points, which dated to March 10, 2007.

Velez scored her 19th of the night on a fast-break layup at just 3:40 of the second quarter. A three-time all-PSUAC first team guard, Velez was playing in her

98th game for the Lions. Also a three-time first-team all-conference softball player and member of Brandywine’s 100 hit club, Velez will look to continue improving on her career points mark which is at 1,530 and counting.
