Villanova’s Dhamir CosbyRoundtree is resting comfortably at home after having surgery earlier this month to remove screws and a metal plate inserted in a previous surgical procedure on his right leg prior to his arrival at Villanova in 2017.

“The minor surgery will allow him to return to basketball quickly and give him added bounce for his senior season in 2020-21,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said in a statement released by the university.

The 6-9 junior forward had a metal rod, plates and screws inserted in his right leg to alleviate problems he was having with his right tibia since his high school days at Neumann-Goretti.

“I feel good,” CosbyRoundtree said in the statement. “I’m walking around and am just waiting for the stitches to be removed.”

Cosby-Roundtree appeared in 29 games this season and served as a team captain along with fellow juniors Collin Gillespie and Jermaine Samuels. He averaged 7.7 minutes, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 points before the season was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Although his production dropped off from his freshman and sophomore seasons, when he averaged a combined 15.7 minutes, four points and four rebounds per game, Cosby-Roundtree was still a key to Villanova’s success, especially behind the scenes as a leader.

“Proud of our guy Dada’s growth and maturity this season — keeping our guys connected and together from a distance while resting up following elective surgery,” Wright tweeted Tuesday.
