Union Foundation launches ‘Fight for Philly’ campaign
The Union and its charitable foundation announced the “Fight for Philly” campaign Tuesday, an effort over the next month to deliver resources and meals to vulnerable populations and those fighting the spread of coronavirus across the Philadelphia area.
The foundation is selling “Fight for Philly” T-shirts, all of the proceeds of which go toward the program’s charitable aims. The fundraising drive will seek to increase the Union Foundation’s ability to give back to the community, with a weekly set of charitable goals build around delivering meals to healthcare workers and impacted families and connecting workers with personal protective equipment.
The schedule of goals the begins this week includes:
Week 1: 1,000 lunches to health care workers to local hospitals.
Week 2: 3,000 branded face shields delivered to health care providers across the greater
Philadelphia area.
Week 3: 1,000 PPE donated to health care locations and grocery stores.
Week 4: 1,000 meals delivered to residents in Chester.
Week 5: 1,000 PPE delivered to health care providers across the greater Philadelphia area.
“The Union continue to be inspired by the heroic men and women who are on the front lines of this pandemic and are fighting with them,” Union president Tim McDermott said via a statement. “Now more than ever, it’s important to give back to the community that we love and call home.”
McDermott also thanked MLS sponsor Captain Morgan for a $55,000 donation.
The “Fight for Philly” campaign incorporates ongoing endeavors, such as the gameday employee assistance fund for part-time Subaru Park staff, now a greater need with MLS last week moving back the restart of its season to no earlier than June 8. The Union are also partnering with Spectra to donate food that had been purchased for stadium operations to a local food bank.
