Aid is available for rent and utility shortfalls

- Edward T. Coleman, Chief Executive Officer, Community Action Agency of Delaware

To the Times:

Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC), a private non-profit corporation since 1979, is responsible for administering a variety of rent and utility assistance programs funded through the federal CARES Act as well as through other public and private sources. The rent and utility assistance programs are designed to help families and individuals whose incomes have been reduced by the

coronavirus pandemic. Delaware County government, local municipalities and CAADC have proactively applied for all available assistance for the county.

The rent and utility assistance programs assist tenants and utility consumers to prevent evictions and utility terminations. They also reduce the loss of income to landlords and utility companies. These programs can assist residents who can document that their income was directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. All payments will be made directly to the service providers or landlords.

While currently there are moratoriums in place to prevent evictions and utility terminations in certain cases, we would like to remind county residents that ultimately they will be responsible for the unpaid rent and utility payments. Once the moratoriums are lifted, the eviction and utility termination processes will resume.

It is anticipated that the demand for service will exceed available funding and funding will be subject to limits. Therefore, we encourage residents to pay what they can so that they do not find themselves in an untenable situation once these restrictions are eased.

We further encourage county residents to contact Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) now to proactively address their situation.

Mail:

We recognize as well that for many households this will be their first time applying for assistance and CAADC will help guide them through the process.

Interested applicants should call CAADC at 610-874-8451 for additional information, eligibility requirements or to schedule an appointment. Due to the current coronavirus pandemic restrictions, no services can be provided without an appointment.

We are committed to helping as many Delaware County residents as possible during these unprecedented times.
